Aladdin tribute to Robin Williams?

That sounds like a great tribute. Thanks so much for sharing!

You're welcome. Forgot to mention one of the CMs who attended the show is very good friends with Genie in the parks. The whole WDW entertainment family has been deeply affected by Robin Williams' passing and they rallied around and have supported all of Genie's friends.

My DD is a WDW CM and two of her friends were at the Aladdin show on Broadway last night. Genie gave a heartfelt tribute at the end of the show and the complete cast of the show along with the audience sang "Friend Like Me." They said it was an amazing tribute to Robin Williams

Thank you for sharing! I found a video of the tribute on Youtube..here it is for those who are interested:

ETA: Sorry, didn't see it already posted!

Thank you for posting that link. I am not normally a "cry" type of person and I have tears flowing at the end of that tribute. He was an amazing man. It is heartbreaking that he touched so many lives in so many different ways, but he could never find peace within himself. I am not sure I will be able to watch any movie with him in it (or voiced in) for a while without tears in my eyes. I saw him in a stand up act a few years ago and it was hands down the best show/concert/event I have ever attended.

I'm sure that there will be some kind of tribute somewhere to Robin Williams. After Michael Jackson died they brought back Captain EO, and it was a very popular way to pay tribute to him. I'd be shocked if Disney didn't come up with some way to pay tribute to Robin Williams he made the Genie the Genie...there would be no Genie without Robin Williams.

The Jimmy Fallon tribute made me bawl......
Mr. Robin Williams, we LOVE YOU!
Thank You for providing us with so much Joy!

Thank you so much for sharing! Disneyluvr2 told me about the silent tribute to Robin Williams that the DLR cast did and it was very moving. I'll let her describe it because I might get the details wrong, but in involved putting the lamp on the stage after the show.

Here's the tribute to the original Genie done at DCA last night. It brings a tear to my eye.

I knew I'd get it wrong, disneyluvr2! So no lamp on the stage; that was someone's idea on page 1 I think! It was also a picture on Facebook, come to think of it. Sheesh, my mind!

Thanks to all those who posted about the various tributes. Robin Williams deserves to be remembered fondly and acknowledged for his contributions.

I remembered something that Robin Williams said after his dispute over Aladdin on a talk show, before he reconciled with Disney. At the time he took scale because it was something that was common, but they expanded the role of Genie after all the lines that he improvised. Then he asked that they not use his voice or the Genie character too heavily in marketing. So he refused to work for Disney after all that. It was something about needing a job, and joking about being desperate enough to perhaps sit on the side of the road with a sign begging for handouts. I can paraphrase.

So you'll probably find me on the side of the road asking for loose change, carrying a sign that says "WILL WORK FOR DISNEY".

Go onto YouTube and type in Aladdin on Broadway tribute to Robin Williams .

this is the first tribute I have seen from a place doing to show. I suspect disneys ca adv will do the same shortly .

For you all wondering

:) He also said something like, "When you work for Disney you find out why The Mouse only has 4 fingers--it's because he can't pick up a check."

Was so shocked to hear about this and how he died as well so so sad.
I cried most of yesterday. Everything I saw online made me cry from people posting "Genie, you're free" to an awesome tribute video I saw on a facebook page but when you look at clips of him you can't help but smile he was just to funny. So so sad what depression can do to a person

I've heard that. My recollection of the joke about the sign may be off. I think it might have been more like:

UNEMPLOYED
NEED MONEY
WILL WORK
FOR DISNEY

The punch line was that people will carry signs saying stuff like "WILL WORK FOR FOOD/SHELTER/TIPS".

Yeah, that's a great one. I love it. I'm glad Disney apologized publicly and admitted that they'd gone against their agreement. They even acknowledged that they had allowed people to think that RW was just trying to get more money when it was actually a matter of personal integrity and principle. Of course, it's also true that it was definitely to their advantage not to be on the outs with such a talented man. Nice, though, that he accepted the apology in spite of everything. I read that he only got $75,000 for doing Aladdin, and that the fact that most of his part was improvised was used as a reason to deny it an Academy nomination. I think that's right; it's something like that.
