Alabama DVCers? -- Got 15?

We are skipping WDW in 2009:scared1: !! We are going for a beach trip to Vero in a 2 BDR in June. My son gets married in August and I am trying to get him a room at HHI. Currently we are waitlisted.

What about you guys?

Another bama dvc member here! Just recently bought a resale at BWV! So excited. We are from Mc Calla

For those driving through Tifton, watch those speedtraps! DH got a ticket this Christmas, but I can't remember the name of the exact small town.

I just had to add a WAR EAGLE ! Way too many roll tides here.:rotfl:

It's good to hear from the Alabama DVCers again.

For our last trip in Dec., we left in the afternoon. We spent the night in Valdosta Ga and drove on in the next morning. It worked really well with our 2 small children who have a hard time with long rides.

Another Bama DVC'er here from Huntsville and a Roll Tide Roll!!!!

We own at SSR, VWL & my fav, BLT.:thumbsup2

Hey Mickey's, I like to leave Mobile when the kids get out of school at 3:00. We have a tradition now the we stop in Crestview and have Whataburger, the kids changed out of their uniforms and settle in. I usually get a standard room at a value resort with my AP discount for the first night. Then I get up early the next day and check in, the room is ready usually.

On a side note, we have been members since 2001 and we have never stayed at our home resort, but have been to WCC several times. :)

I was curious to see if you went to the big concerts, etc. that US has around Mardi Gras. The reason that I asked about WCC is because the kids have to make a pledge that they will never go to Universal Studios. I think this is totally adorable, and something totally cool to harass the kids.

My kids have never been to Universal Studios.

Also, who let the Auburn fan in here. :lmao:

Hey, I know that Whataburger!!!! We always pass through Crestview on our way to Destin. I keep hoping a Whataburger will make it up to Huntsville, but they've only made it so far as Prattville I think, it's somewhere on I-65, I know that much.:lmao:

Has anyone left at midnight and drove through, or even gotten up early at say 4am and driven through? What do you guys suggest?

We are staying at POR on our 1st night, and want to stroll the grounds and go to Downtown Disney on our 1st night.

done both - it takes around 9 to 12 hours from birmingham.

here is my new route - took it to St augustine - so it was timed correctly - did not believe it at first.

for those of you with children or seniors - this is not a good route - very, very few rest stops.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Bir...+Highway+280+S&1z=35223-2407&2pn=Disney+World

only stop for gas/rest stop (naps) - for midnight don't stop for food. 4am do stop for food so it takes longer.

like to drive at night. Allergy to the sun - makes it harder for me to drive during the day.

so either time would get you there for DD.

OK, Alabama DCVers let's get acquainted or reacquainted whichever the case may be.

I am Bob and live in Oxford. DW (Su Bette) and I have been married 25 years. We have a 22 year old son(Cody) who is a senior at Jacksonville State and is engaged to be married this August 8th. We also have a daughter(Mattie)who is a sophomore at Oxford.

I am a photojournalist, Chief Photographer at a small daily newspaper. I also have my own photography business specializing in weddings and senior portraits mainly, but do other types of photography as well. I grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Huffman High in 1980 and from the Univ. of North Alabama with a degree in commercial photography in 1985.

We have been WDW nuts since our first stay in 1997 at CBR. We made subsequent trips in 1999, 2001-08. We have stayed at CBR, ASMovies, ASMusic, Pop Century, Yacht Clubx3, Coronado Springs, BWVx2, VB and VWL. We purchased DVC in September of 2006.

Hello, everyone. We are from Birmingham.

We recently became DVC members in September, 2008. :woohoo:

Our first trip to stay as part of the DVC will be May,2009. I can't wait. We have been to Disney about 20 times but have always stayed in the FW campground. It is just DH and myself, we usually do not take the big kids or grandkids. Our last trip was Feb 1 - 8, 2009. The trip usually takes us 11 hours driving from Bham to Montgomery taking 231, I-10, I-75, Florida Turnpike to Western Way.

I'm Emily and I've been married to my DH Jason for 5 years. Live in Huntsville, but love to travel, especially WDW and DCL. I'm a bit of a BLT addict since CR was the resort I stayed at on my 1st trip at the age of 4, so it holds a special place in my heart. Our 1st trip "home" will be in Nov. and I can hardly wait.

We always drive. I live in Oxford which is almost exactly 550 miles each way. If we drive with very minimal stops it takes a little over 8 hours. Driving allows us to take all the food and drinks with us that we'll need. We usually stay 5-6 nights.

Thanks for the specific information on driving to WDW from Oxford. That's exactly what I was wondering about. DH got enthralled with a golf course there (Cider Ridge?) and the friendliness of the people there. Me, I want to know how far to WDW!

I am Pat - live in Homewood, AL in a condo (so not rich). Single, very happy, work for 37 years at Protective, went to WDW first in June, 1972. loved it. went until 1976 (grandmother died) - didn't get back until 1983. In 1988 started to go annually, then biannual 1991, then well joined DVC in 1993 (3 to 5 times a year)

love my cats, WDW, sci-fi (movies and books).

do volunteer work for the Humane Society. (Clyde, one of my cats, came from there)

use to love to walk - but lately.:scared1: havn't been and going to Disney soon - so better get up and get going.

I live about four or five miles from Cider Ridge. I've played there several times but prefer to play at Silver Lakes which is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and about 30 minutes away.

Hello everone. I am Lewis from Mobile, I have a wonderful wife, Wendy. We have two kids, Will (13) and Nicole, (15), who attend St. Dominics Middle School and McGill Toolen Catholic High School.

We have been owners of the Wilderness Lodge since 2001, almost paid for. :cool1:

We go every year at Mardi Gras since our kids are out of school for two days. It is a great time to go except when it gets to close to presidents day, then can get a little crowded. We usually get at least another trip in.

We love staying at Beach Club. Great access to Epcot and The Studios.

Will be there one week from Friday, can't wait.

On a side note:My Disney claim to fame is me and my BIL road Tower of Terror 21 times in a row one year, a lot of fun. :rotfl:

Hi all, Huntsville here!

My wife and I just joined DVC on Feb 7th and joined the boards today! Bought into AKV. We stayed there Feb 1st - 8th and loved it! We go down every year, and had been thinking about joining for a couple years, and finally decided to pull the trigger this trip. We are using our developer points at SSR in May for our anniversary and going again sometime later in the year so we can actually stay at AKV... haven't really decided when yet though.

Look forward to reading and posting more in the future!

You're daughter doesn't happen to play volleyball for McGill does she? They have a killer team. I keep an eye on the state finals every year and I know they almost always make it to the finals.

Welcome fellow Huntsvillian!!!! Congrats on your new DVC purchase, you'll never regret it.:thumbsup2

OK, I think I've added all the new people.

Please let me know if I didn't get you added to the list.

MSUWthr Welcome to the DIS and especially to Alabama DVCers.

You'll notice on this board that we like to talk about travelling, where we own, what its like to be a DVC owner in Alabama (i.e., being by yourself), other vacation destinations, other timeshares:scared1: and football. There are a lot of ROLL TIDE and WAR EAGLE on this thread.

If you search all the way through, you will notice a lot of folks talking about UNA and the Shoals area. I don't know, maybe I biased the thread on that. It was pretty neat for ME when that happened though.

It is truly cool to meet all of you guys in a cyber sort of way. :wave2:
