Hi all--

We are owners at SSR with a December use year. This is the first time we've needed to use the waitlist & I have some questions.

We are taking my parents to WDW the first week in December. My mom's request was to stay at AKV Jambo savannah view. Was debating on 2 studios vs a 2 bedroom & had decided on 2 studios since it was less points. At 8am 7 month mark, 2 studios were not available, so I waitlisted them & selected to not replace existing reservation since I did not have an existing reservation at the time.

I now want to book a room so we will at least have some place to stay. Would like to book OKW 2 bedroom, which is available & would use banked 2013 points & current year 2014 points. If the 2 AKV studio waitlists come through, it would use remaining current year points plus would have to borrow points from 2015 use year. If the 2 studio waitlists come through & I cancel the OKW 2 bedroom, would MS let me reallocate the points to use banked & current year points? Would I be able to undo the borrowing of points?

OR....would I be better off to cancel the 2 AKV studio waitlist, book OKW 2 bedroom & waitlist AKV 2 bedroom? Am I correct in thinking that we'd have a better chance of getting the 2 bedroom waitlist to come through vs 2 studios?

What would you do?? Thanks in advance for your help!!

You can't reallocate borrowed points - they stay in the year they were borrowed into. If I were in your situation, I would book the OKW 2 bedroom to have some place to stay and then waitlist the 2 bedroom at AKV. You will have a better shot of one villa (2 bedroom) becoming available thru the waitlist than 2 villas (studios) becoming available for your dates.

The 2 bedroom is nicer than 2 studios - the full kitchen, laundry facilities and the living area makes a vacation feel more like a vacation to our family :) You will be spoiled by all of the space of a 2 bedroom.

One problem with having to waitlist is that both studios may not fill so then what happens if you get just one? For that reason waitlisting a 2BR could be easier however at Jambo since they are all lockoffs that means that a studio and 1BR will have to open up at the same time which is another difficulty. Is Kidani an ok option? It would be good for you to have some sort of backup and since Kidani has dedicated 2BR's it will be even more likely to fill.

As was mentioned borrowed points cannot be put back so if you went that route you'll have to use any borrowed points or they will expire prior to the end of your UY. The safer option is to at least book something and make a new waitlist that will cancel the reservation you will make. So since Jambo is the real goal I'd book a 2BR someplace now and then waitlist a 2BR at Jambo and if Kidani would be ok I'd also waitlist a dedicated 2BR there.

Make sure you have one reservation now, which I assume is the OKW 2BR, because in a few days, or even less, that may not even be open anymore. I agree with above that you should waitlist for 2BR at AKV not two studios, including because you are entitled to two waitlists and thus you can waitlist for a 2BR at Jambo and a 2BR dedicated at Kidani, and you can set it up so that if one of those comes through the OKW reservation gets cancelled first and the new reservation uses the points in the OKW reservation. You cannot do that with two studios each of which would be its own waitlist, and thus your max two waitlists would be used for two studios at Jambo, and you cannot logically set it up so that OKW is cancelled and its points used when a studio wait list comes through. If you have to convince mom about Kidani 2BR, tell her the room is 100 sq ft larger than Jambo's 2BR, has three bathrooms, a much nicer master bath with separate shower and tub, far more closet space and overall is a nicer room.

Thanks all for your advise! I did end up booking OKW 2bedroom & waitlisting both Jambo & Kidani 2 bedroom. I wanted Jambo since my mom has some lung issues that causes her to get winded with long walks...Kidani's long hallways scare me :) But if it gets her a savannah view, she will just have to adapt & overcome! Thanks again!!
