AKV Value

Lmao you found the white rhino :) Glad your all watching this closely for us AKV owners.

I had hoped to book a Value Studio early January so have been stalking it since December when they disappeared. I have a waitlist set so hoping that at some point they decide to release the rooms back (not counting on it but worth having a WL just in case).

So the total block-out dates were, I believe, December 3, 2019 through January 26, 2020. Adding those dates here to have a reminder so we can see if any of those dates start to open up closer to the applicable time.

I emailed DVC about this on Friday. Joy from Member Relations (I think that's the group name she mentioned) just called me back this morning. She said that they appreciated my email and have been looking into this. She said that the value rooms were pulled for maintenance on the rooms themselves, not because of the resort refurbishment, and at this time they didn't have any information regarding any other villas being pulled at AKV. She did not know the scope of the maintenance. She also told me that they had added an alert on the website, but when I checked earlier I could not find it but I may just not be all that proficient with the DVC website since I don't use it too often. I made it clear that I wasn't happy that there wasn't information given earlier, people should at least have been notified so that they could make a more informed waitlist choice instead of possibly wasting a waitlist on these rooms if they aren't returned.

Joy is quite nice and seems to understand the system better than most I have spoken with at MS. She'll tow the party line but also admit where there are faults (such as IT). She called after some emails back and forth with MS to apologize for the response I got (after going back and forth a number of times and me replying to their email, I received an email saying that they couldn't reply to me because I didn't message through the DVC site....I had and I was replying to one of their replies to me so it was obvious and she called to apologize for that). She was the one who was going to explain walking to me. I brought it to her attention that the entire value category had been pulled and at first she said they must just be booked and are probably being walked until I mentioned the 8th day not showing up after midnight...then she said that it must be at the resort level (likely maintenance) because MS can't access those days.

It was obvious that she was just reading the party line, as I asked her about specifics regarding why this would need to be done after the refurbishment in 2016, and if AKV owners should be bracing for increased dues if this is going to be widespread throughout the resort. All she knew was about these specific rooms for this period, and that it was not due to the resort side work. She did not know which issues are being addressed, nor why it is so critical to pull them during a busy DVC time, but not critical enough to be done sooner, especially since it would be so few rooms impacted that they could likely absorb room modifications during a slower time, even if people were already booked. I got what I wanted out of my email, which was just to let DVC know that we notice these things and to voice my concerns, and Joy was actually really lovely and made me laugh and smile on the call which was a bright spot to my morning.

This was what I had discussed with her as well....that it is noticed and being discussed by owners. And yes, our conversation was excellent and we had some laughs as well.
