AKV Kidani standard view

Interesting topic - always a matter of opinion.

I had savanna at Kidani the first time. The last three times were standard views. I have liked the standard views and been happy to conserve the points. However, about two weeks ago I decided to change my next Kidani stay from standard to savanna. Not really sure what prompted me since it cost 42 extra points.
:confused3

Here's my take on the whole "savanna or not" thing at Kidani...

Savanna views are great the first time! There is no doubt. However, it can be a "been there, done that" feeling. As others have experienced, it can be a very dull view. Face it - animals don't do much most of the time but walk around, lay down or eat. Savanna views are very quiet. There are no vehicles (delivery, guest cars, buses, taxis, etc), pools or activity areas so it is very peaceful. The loudest thing is usually kids hollering from their balconies at the animals.
:lmao: They do, of course, suck quite a few more points from your allotment.

Standard views are a bit more economical point wise. Views vary from guest parking lot, to bus stop/valet parking lot, to lobby entrance porte-cochere to the pool complex. There is alot of activity on this side of the resort so it is not as quiet. Buses can be heard all the time in the Timon wing, BTW. This side can seem more "alive" with people than the savanna side (good or bad based on your own opinion). Beyond the parking lots and driveway is a large undeveloped field which is what most of the view would be unless you are near the pool complex.

All of my Kidani stays have been in the Timon wing (for some reason). Besides the one savanna view, I've always been near the bus stop depot. Once was a section just past the far end bus stop, once was a section behind the first (MK) bus stop and the last one was the second room off the elevator lobby. Didn't like the last one as it was a fully enclosed balcony and right near the porte-cochere so running vehicles were always right below us. It was un-magical - albeit quick to get out via the the stairs and easy access to the elevators. Turned out to be record cold that whole week so I didn't miss using the balcony but it still felt closed in. Out past the bus stop was the best one. I might like to get even further out in the Zazu wing once (nearest wing to Jambo). I have no desire for the Rafiki wing (nearest the pool and on the check-in desk side). Those lower floors rooms are way to close to the driveway and primary walkway to the pool complex.

I guess part of me would like the peacefulness of the savanna side and part of me likes the "lively" standard side for less points. Perhaps that's why I decided to splurge on a savanna view next time. I guess once in awhile, say every 3rd year, is a good compromise! And I'll probabaly still have the "wasted points" feeling afterwards.

DH and I are split on the matter. I don't mind saving money and going for the standard view, but DH insists he has to have savanna view.

If you've never had a savanna view then I would go for it at least for the first time - especially if you do spend time out enjoying your balconies! That's what the Animal Kingdom Lodge is all about.

I'm not a "just a place to sleep and shower" type so views & balconies become particularly important for my Disney vacations.
Deluxe all the way, baby! No wonder I finally bought DVC!!
"No duh" moment for me!

:snooty: yet :cloud9:

We have stayed Savanna view, so that's why he insists he won't go without having that view. I booked CL for our next trip, and there is a chance we won't get savanna view. I haven't told him yet, and may not. If we get pool view, I'll just try to act surprised:laughing:

We've had 3 different Savannah views. Arusha (did not see any animals), sunset savannah (wonderful view) and my parents got stuck with Pembe. It was horrible. I know some people enjoy Pembe, but they were at the edge of Pembe so really it just looked like dead grass, with wire fencing and two antelopes or goats sleeping under the same tree for 3 days . . . kinda like you were looking at an abandoned farm  It was a big bummer for them.

Here is our 1-bedroom standard view--7913. We enjoyed it. It was raining when I took these pics so it doesn't look very pretty--but it still felt like we were in another world. It was also kind of handy because we could see the bus stop. Once we learned the stop locations, we could get an idea if a bus for a certain park was yet to arrive (thus giving us time to hurry to the stop!)

Don't have a straight ahead view but it would be similar to the second pic in Post #7--except from the other side of the covered front entrance area.

Standard view at Jambo is the pool view, why not try Jambo. You can still use the facilites at Kidani.

That's what we're doing in July. We love the Jambo pool and think the points are a great value. I understand the rooms are smaller and have one less bathroom, but I think we'll survive!

We have a Kidani savannah view studio booked for just a couple weeks from now, and can't wait. Will confess that I'll be disappointed if we don't see many animals, though.

And by the by, do we check in at Kidani itself?

We stayed at Kidani last year and will be staying there again this year. Its an awesome value for the points.

We were in room 7511 in the Timon section. It was very convenient but my one complaint was the noise. I didn't mind the bus noise, it was the theme music. I think it played 24 hrs? I could always hear the low drumming noise. Some people might find it soothing, I found it annoying and it actually kept me awake.

Anyone else notice this noise from their room? Or am I crazy? Now granted we were right next to the bus stop.

I am wondering how far away I will need to go from the lobby/bus area to not hear the music?

thanks

I know there was background music at the resort but I don't recall hearing any of it from inside the room. And I've been in Timon wing 3 times - two times behind the bus stop, one time right near the lobby entrance.

Maybe you are crazy!
:rolleyes1

I vote for jambo values..guaranteed a pool or savannah view and the cheapest points!

We have stayed at Kidani twice, both times saving points with standard view. We found it just fine. One time we looked out over handicapped parking toward the pool, and the next time we had a great side view of the savannah and looked out across to the pool. Be aware that at Kidani they have done a FABULOUS job of building in lots of windows and porches from which to view the animals. So you will see a TON of animals from around the resort even if you don't have a view from your room!

Kidani is close to OKW in points -- A BARGAIN. Staying there for a week last summer let us "afford" BLT at spring break. The resort is lovely. If you choose Jambo instead to guarantee a pool view, keep in mind that the 1-bedrooms at Jambo may not have the extra bathroom and convertible sleeper chair. For my family with two teens, those two features are worth way more than a pool view.

Request "near pool" when you book! That will put you close to not only the pool but drink refills, health club, and lots of underneath parking.
