I'm starting on the planning stages of my 2011 trips. This morning I finally settled on dates and now I need to decide on the resorts. I really want to stay at both AKV buildings. However, I'm undecided as to which one to stay at during each trip.

Although I own at AKV and i've stayed at the resort 3 times (Jambo twice and Kidiani once), I really didn't get to spend much time at the resorts, as I was with people who were new to Disney and most of them time we had was spent in the parks. For theses trips I want to spend a majority of my time at the resorts, so I can learn every nook and cranny.

These trips will either be solo or with my sister (who has been several times).

For my July trip, I want the best pool, as I am planning on spending most of my days sunbathing and drinking fruity drinks. I've used the Jambo pool and really enjoy it, is the kidani one better?

How about for my December trip? Which resort is better at xmas time? I plan on eating at Jiko, Sanna, and Boma at some point during my trips.

Any suggestions?

For the December trip, since you want to go to parks, I would pick Kidani since that's the first stop to the parks. I would stay in Jambo for the swimming trip. I think the Kidani pool is more geared to youngsters. I like the whirlpools in Jambo, especially the one that's surrounded by the bamboo stalks!

I choose which building mostly by the type of villas. When I book studios, I like Jambo's setup better, for larger units I pick Kidani because of the extra bathroom. Then there are my "value" stays, like in September when I'm doing a gals trip and I have a value 2 bedroom. I do prefer Jambo's amenities just a wee bit more.

You need to book that Christmas trip pretty soon if you want a choice of locations.

:) We are planning our first May trip this year and have a AKV-K studio standard view booked. We have stayed at Kidani two times. I would agree with Bobbi that you will enjoy the pool at Jambo better due to the lush surroundings--it seems more shaded and luxurious for ordering umbrella drinks. I would stay at Kidani for the more quiet festive feel during Christmas which was our last trip in 2010--picked up first is a great perk with Kidani buses.

If you plan on going July and December I would highly advise you get those reservations now, meaning immediately, and don't worry too much about which building. Personal view for adult only trip, one or two people, is that Jambo is the best. The pool is better than Kidani for adults, larger, ability to find far more quiet and shaded areas, hot tubs in heavily shaded areas. You have more restaurants, and a much larger lobby and store.

Thank you for everyone's responses! I will call first thing in the morning to check on avilibility at Jambo for a week in July and Kidani for a week in December.
