I am thinking about planning a WDW trip for the fall (October maybe). I was going to book SSR (home resort) because we enjoyed staying there. However, my DS7 would be thrilled with an AK stay. My question is: we have 5 people in our family. Do you think I should book AKV for a few of the days, or just wait til the "real villas" open in 2009...I don't want to end up staying in a hotel roomish villa. What are people's feelings on the new rooms?

**I apologize if some of these issues have been addressed before; I haven't been visiting the DVC boards as much and I can't slog through all the AKV threads & posts!***
THANKS!

You can try AKV - and I would if you can get reservations.

remember that Oct is pretty popular and very, very few AKV rooms will be done. only 134 units.

Of the 134 rooms, it looks like 46 of them will be dedicated studios that will not sleep 5, so for your family, the inventory at AKV is even smaller. Good luck. -- Suzanne

Good point. Where are you finding the inventory info? Is there a site that gives layouts yet? I have only been to AKL once. Are the rooms that are being converted going to be regular DVC style/size rooms?

DVC has disclosed in some public filings that there will be 46 dedicated Studios at AKV and has given the size at 316 sf, which would be smaller than a typical studio. DVC has also stated that the rooms at AKV that are in the value category will be smaller.

Also, it really makes sense that smaller than normal rooms are more likely to be built where they are converting an existing building than when they are building from scratch.

In addition, the thought is that 3 hotel rooms will be converted into a single 2 BR lockoff, but whenever this happens along a hallway of 8 rooms, it will leave 2 rooms that will need to be converted into 2 studios (apparently AKV will not have any dedicated 1BRs). There are 32 hallways on the 5th floor of the AKL that are being converted to AKV that have 7 or 8 rooms in the current configuration. As a result, lots of dedicated studios are likely.

That's why I say that there will likely be 46 dedicated studios out of the 134 rooms in the current building.

So, no, AFAIK, DVC has not given out floor plans or any specific number of accomodations, but I didn't want you to get your hopes too high when you will be looking for an accommodation larger than a studio at AKV this Fall.

With regard to the rooms specifically, the 1BR and 2BR in both the current building and the new building are each supposed to have a full kitchen, so I think they will each still be very different from a typical hotel room.

With the limited number of rooms and the presales already taking place I have a feeling it will be very hard to get into AKV if thats not your your home resort.
