AKV Founders Tapestry No More!

Well said, dianeschlicht!!

With all that's going on in the world, I wish the only thing I had to worry about was where my name was embroidered in a hotel in central Florida. Wow.

:sad2:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It was probably the design team of AKV/AKL that came up with the fact that tapestries are not really an African theme. Who knows Jim Lewis may have fought tooth and nail figuring his membership would freak out with the change to something more in line with the African theme.

A wall tapestry is something you find in a French Chateau(sp?) not an African lodge anyway.

Whatever it is I'm sure it will look great.

Apparently some of you are find with Disney selling one thing, and delivering another. Its a small thing, some what trivial. But what's next?

We'll see what the next "bait and switch" Disney does to its members. Maybe the next one will affect your membership or your resort.

Look at last year's marketing to new members. Disney really pushed the II trading options hard. A lot of new members bought with those II destinations as an added incentive. Only to have Disney switch to RCI without much warning.

Your Tug side is showing Tom!:)

Well I'll get my knickers in a bunch when something non-trivial happens. You are reacting like the Wyndham owners rightly did when they SIGNIFCANTLY changed the product.

And for the members who ran and bought right out of the box to get their name on a big blanket and missed the better discounts that were offered later on. It's my Titanic theory, I don't want to be on the maiden voyage, something not pleasant will happen and in business the first buyers always don't get a good deal.

IMHO an African Ceremonial Robe could be a beautiful piece of artwork. When walking the halls of AKL, there are some very interesting tribal robes displayed and I would imagine something similar is what's being created with the founding members names on it.
Yes, I am a founding member and our 'name' will be written as Weaver's Therapy. :goodvibes

I'm looking forward to seeing what the final product actually is.

I know....funny huh.

Truthfully, its not a big deal. The point I really want to make is I (we) expect better treatment from Disney. They are suppose to be different from the other timeshare companies, so they tell us. For the most part they are, but little things like this, paper plates/cups, etc start to add up. When no one reacts to them, then expect more changes to happen.

I've gotta say, I agree with your discomfort at the fact that DVC told us one thing, then changed it. I don't care if the robe is "better" than the tapestry. It's the fact that they announced one thing, then changed their minds. It would have been nice if DVC had made a formal announcement on their change and WHY it's the better choice to have the robe. It's probably not so much what happened but how it's being handled (or rather NOT being handled). As Timon said, "And everyone's OK with this?"

I completely see where your coming from on this one. We're new DVC owners and did quite a bit of research on it before deciding to join. Now, in the 8 months we've owned there have been many changes that leave me very uncomfortable with what is going on in upper management and the way they are "adjusting" things. First, the new booking policy, then II/RCI (I had several places I might have exchanged to with II - I find nothing with RCI, although at least I didn't buy to exchange - but it was a nice option), now the 100pt minimum at BLT and possibly the same at GCV and no more gifts bags for adding on.

I wonder what would be said if they announced that instead of a tile for BLT they were getting a paper weight to place on their desk. ;) Well, at least we know Disney knows how to make bricks and tiles.

Now I get what we bought - it's just that most of the changes seem to be detrimental to my membership and that's worrisome for the future. Seeing something long promised like the tapestry is not life changing - but I see it as a signal and if something isn't ever said to DVC then who knows what the next "improvement" will be.

Well wait to you see the hotel it looks nothing like the concept art. in the front entry way there is not going to be trees going through the roof like in the picture. in the back savanna side ,the right side of the lobby almost all the windows were removed from the budget. If you look now it is just red walls. As a matter of fact the whole front is different then the concept art look at the roof, it is way not like the picture. I think the hotel is down right ugly. If you want to go to the pool you might as well just swim in the parking lot because that is were the pool is located. Whan you are in the parking lot the hotel looks like a big green parking garage, all you are able to see is the cars under the resort, unless they build some sort of walls around the bottom of the resort. Even the lobby is on top of a parking structure. I hope you don't mind all of this changes and ugly construction ,because if you get upset over a robe, this stuff might take you for a loop!

I'm an AKV founding member as well.

Founding members got shafted, basically speaking.

1, No developer's points.

2. Jambo actually opened earlier than originally planned, thus founding members were shut out of staying there when it first opened.

3. This "tapestry" thing is just a mess.

It had better be a very large robe in order to see all of the names of all of the people who are founding members. Hmm... Better yet, it might be better to have the robe small in order to conceal the names of all of the founding members (suckers) who purchased early.

From what I've seen, it seems to look pretty much like the concept artwork.

I love the necklace we got as Founding Members- mine is hanging in my office at work where I can see it every day. I'm sure the robe will be nice. I don't think I'll spend a lot of time on my vacation staring at it to watch my name though. I'm sure I'll look for it at least once...

I'll play devil's advocate here.

I doubt this robe will be a bathrobe hanging on a hook in the corner of the lobby. If it's going to include the names of several hundred AKV owners, it will have to be large and I assume attractively displayed.

Sounds to me like the designers determined that a robe fit with the style/design of the lobby better than a tapestry. To be honest, a tapestry always seemed a little stale to me--a big rug with little names and acronyms scrawled across it. After seeing photos of the impressive plaques they sent to all of the founding members, I'll be curious to see what they do with this robe concept.

BTW, I doubt that it was a DVC decision. The designers (Imagineering) probably had final say.

I realize that many AKV Founding Members may be disappointed, but I have had to remove several posts from this thread. Please discuss subjects on the DVC Board with respect for others, and please, no sexual innuendos. This is a family friendly board.

I think anything commemorating the founding members that Disney comes up with will be nicely designed, and fit well within the decor/theme of the resort.

Thank you.

They're easy to read and fit the theme, at least.

Oh, I really hope that is not true.

There will be some very angry calls to member services and guides, if that is true. Including some calls from us.

I don't really understand why anyone would be angry. If this is all it takes to make someone angry, maybe they shouldn't be going to Disney in the first place. :smickey:
