We are very interested in an add on and I'm wondering if we will get 2006 points if we take advantage of the $8.00 per point discount before next Monday.

Because AKV wasn't opened in 2006, I'm guessing no. We bought in February, and have a March UY, and we didn't get '06 points as we would have if we bought at another resort. We don't pay MF for the year until the building opens, for us, that's September, so dues will be prorated from then.

It is now 2007, and you do get 07 points which are retroactive if your UY for 07 is past. I called today and the guide had to tell me that it is 2007!! I'm still mentally in 06!!! :thumbsup2

No. you dont get the points until the 2007 use year. However you can borrow them from the 2007 use year to use in 2006.

If you buy SSR however, you will get points for 2006 use year if you are still in the 2006 use year

AKV starts with 2007 UY points. There are no 2006 points at AKV. When sales first started they offered a choice of the $8/pt incentive or a set of developer points that expired in 7 months (and could not be banked or transferred). Since we're getting close to the date when AKV points can be used (July '07 for some purchasers, Sep '07 for others) I'm not sure whether they still offer the option of taking the developer points. But if they do, then you would have to give up the $8/pt in order to get them.

At our open house on 5/20, this offer was not mentioned - just the $8/pt incentive. We were/are new members, not an add-on.

LOL! That might be a little difficult to use points last year!!

You will get current use year points, and in this case, since it is 2007, you will get 2007 use year points. We have a March use year, so we immediately banked our 2007 AKV points and used those along with our 2008 use year points for our March '08 ressie at AKV.

Developer points are still an option @ AKV. DH has decided he wants an AKV add-on rather than keeping on waiting for a VB reasale that meets our specifications, so I've been on the phone with a guide today!!

We did a 110 point addon at AKV this month and were able to get the developer points and were able to use them for a reservation for AKV for this October. These developer points expire 7 months from the date of the contract. The incentive is either the DV points OR the $8 discount per point.

Not really...
There are many members still in a 2006 use year. If you are adding on, and If you have an october or december use year for example....it's still 2006 for you.

If you buy a brand new contract (minimum of 160 points), then you get the 2007 use year automatically for that new contract. Most members dont like to do this however since having contracts with multiple use years becomes difficult to manage and keep track of.

When does AKV open? tias
The first group of rooms (7 2BR lockoffs, 7 dedicated studios) opens in July. There are more rooms opening up in Sep, then another group of rooms in Dec, and another in May '08. The new building opens in 2009.

:) Setting the record straight. We have a VWL December use year contract. We just added on at AKV. Our points begin as of December 2007; however we can borrow from our AKV 2007 points for stays before December which we did. So I know for sure that Animal Kingdom Villas addons the first use year is 2007.

The quote from jerry557 was referring to adding on at SSR. Members adding on anywhere other than AKV who are still in their 2006 UYs (those with an Aug, Sep, Oct or Dec UY) would get 2006 points.

That's true, but you do NOT get 2006 points at AKV....They will be 2007 points. If you have a December use year, you wont have useable points at AKV (non-developer ones) until 12/07.

I just talked with my DVC guide tonight for an add-on of 150 pts at AKV and she assured me I am getting 150 pts to bank immediately (for 06) because I have Dec UY and I will get another 150 '07 points in Dec 07 for AKV along with the 255 pts I have at SSR with Dec UY.

I think what people keep missing here is that jerry557's comment about 2006 points was in regard to adding on at resorts other than AKV. Here is his original post:

If I were you, I would call her back ASAP, remind her of what she offered you and say "I'll take it!", assuming you would get all those points plus the $8/pt incentive (final price: $93/pt)? If not then she may be referring to the developer points. If that's the case, those points are not bankable and expire 7 months from your purchase date.

I did take the deal, and paid the downpayment. I will be receiving 150 pts for AKV for Dec 06. Thanks.
** In fact, I talked with her twice today about this. Both times she said I will be receiving points for 06 and then receive more in Dec 07.

So did you get the $8/pt incentive price (final price $93/pt)? If not, then that set of points you got are "developer points". They expire 7 months from your purchase date and cannot be banked or transferred.
