AKV/direct $108 pt.... what would you do?

People who want to save more than 50% on the cost of a room with the small amount of effort that it takes to contact Daddio and book a rental ressie. That's who.

Do you know anyone who has done it .

OMG I just briefly looked into bluegreen . I am not ready to belive what I read totally as I only read one thread a big one . But I assume you would recommend picking one up resale not direct , cause it sounds horable from multiple people .

I am also not sure I would like being locked in forever and willing to deal with a company that is so shrewd . Something I realy like about disney. They seemed up front and trustworthy .

Again I may change my mind but that was quite disappointing . Although i realize the op of that thread I looked at didnt do any research of their own on it . Casue they seemed unaware of MF
That's why you need to spend time assimilating the info. IMO, one has to separate out the sales process from the usage and ownership. I thought I was clear that resale was the way to go, buying retail would be even more insane than buying DVC for the wrong reasons. I think you can mostly ignore the sales related issues and that goes for Wyndham as well. Marriott is more in line with DVC but truth be told, even for DVC, one has to separate out the usable information from the hype. Many, if not most timeshare people, consider the RTU expiration of DVC as a negative. In general I'd agree though not as strongly as some of them would put it. While I think Disney is a pretty good company, I think you're putting far too much faith in them at this point and into the future. Disney is just another good timeshare, nothing more and nothing less. If you want to visit non DVC places routinely, I'd suggest you continue to investigate the options that fit your needs. I don't know if BG, Wyndham or another company is best for you, depends on where you want to go. Both are great options for many situations and horrible for others.

Well, for starters I have. What's your point?

Go check out the rent/trade board and catch a glimpse of how vibrant the point rental market is.

You have rented for 40 years . And you own points

I think we're done here. It would be one thing if you simply stated that the enjoyment and pride you derive from your direct purchase were enough to justify the cost. That dollars and cents can't measure the security you feel when you know that you have direct points for the next 42 years. That's hard to argue with, because there's no real way to put a dollar amount on satisfaction and joy. But when you start making "mathematical arguments" using some of the most biased assumptions I have ever seen, it is hard to take your position seriously.

I wish you the best with your DVC purchase. I would recommend that you track your usage and expenses as well as the real alternative costs for your stays over time so that in the future you can reflect upon your usage and see if it reconciles with the assumptions you are making today.

I an sorry my intention was not to get you upset.

But I won't be doing that . For the simple reason I dont care as much about money as people here do . I will not spend time stressing about a few dollors here and there . The dvc purchase is a very small piece of my puzzle .

I dont get the whole you spend more cause you go more thing , like it's a bad thing .

It's not a "bad thing" that you end up spending more money at Disney after you buy DVC. But those answers usually come within the context of people asking how DVC can save them money.

People answer that question by saying that DVC can save you money on your lodging when compared with staying Deluxe on each trip. But even though you may have savings on the lodging aspect, you'll most certainly spend waaaaaay more on tickets, airfare, food, etc., once you buy DVC because you'll likely be going more often or on longer trips.

It's all about the context of the answer.

I dont know what that acronym is .
That was part of the point, you're still learning about DVC and timeshares. Actually we all are, esp as things change over time.

Well can you tell me what it is . I guess that it it's the expiration date . Just cause I don't know what an acronym is ,or don't agree with you take , does not mean I don't know what I am talking about . Yeah I don't know about other TS but that's cause I am not interested in them . I think I have a pretty good handle on DVC though .

Missyrose did above or I would have included it. It's Right To Use.

Here's the most important thing in my opinion--you have to know what you are buying and make sure that you are perfectly happy with that produce, without all the extras that can be thrown in, regardless of how unlikely it is that they won't be there.

So, when you buy DVC is really is about the right to use your home resort, plain and simple. Buying directly through Disney will cost you more, plain and simple.

In your case, because of the upcoming cash stay and the price of AKV, that difference is shrinking and makes it easier to go that route.

What I would not do is buy more points than you need for your DVC trips.

We own BLT and BWV. If all I a could ever do with those points is stay at those resorts I would be happy. Therefore all those extra are just that, extras and if they aren't there at some point, I don't care. When one buys and uses the perks as part of the process and for those perks, it can lead to disappointment and frustration later on.

As long as you are happy with what you spend when it's done, resale or direct, is all that matters.

Good luck!!

I'm glad that the conversation went the way it did. I've never considered another TS. I've vacationed mostly at Disney the last 15 or so years. Now that I have a 18mo in the equation I'm sure that this trend will continue.

I have learned a lot of valuable information...valuable in terms of dollars and sense.

After staying at OKW and then AKL one stay about ten years ago I guess I became a snob. lol I've rented points for both OKW on that trip and then for another trip this last July to stay at Kidani. I understand the value of renting points but ultimately you're at someone else's mercy. Not a great feeling when your putting that much money on the line and the difference is going on vacation or not. Besides, the money I put down on that vacation could have been used for my principal. I do believe that renting points is an amazing secret when all transactions occur properly. I'd like to be on the flip side of that now though and never have to rely on anyone but the reservationist at DVC now to book my own trips.

Yes, I understand the value of only using my points to stay at Disney, but I like the option of being able to use my left-over points to do a few days here and there for locations closer to home that don't require extra tickets, airfare, etc. Hopefully this will stay true and never disappear, but if it does I guess we'll have to do Hawaii, Vero Beach and Hilton Head more often. No having to twist my arm there! As a matter of fact I am hoping to visit those resorts soon.

Thanks for all the insight!

I an sorry my intention was not to get you upset.

No worries and I appreciate the apology. I'm not upset, more like a little frustrated because...

I think I have a pretty good handle on DVC though .

...based on some of the comments you have made, I don't really see the evidence to support this statement. Not knowing about DVC (or anything else for that matter) is not a crime, nor is it an inherently bad thing. There are plenty of topics that I don't know a lot about. Whenever they come up, however, I stop talking and start listening. In the case of this message board, problems occur when you don't know about a topic but you act like you do. It becomes especially problematic when other neophytes read these false or misleading statements and take them as fact.

See, here is the thing we never say about renters, Would they ever, EVER, rent a 1br suite in a villa for rack rate? I think renters enhance their accomadations but would strongely, respectively, disagree that anyone who rents truly saves 50%;)

The same can be said for members, however. I have four people staying in a grand villa in two weeks. My kids will each get their own bedroom. I would have never in a million years made that reservation with cash.
