AKL - Would you or wouldn't you.............

I have booked a standard room. I've requested NON smoking on the 3rd or 4th floor. So, here's my question.

Would you suggest we book the savannah view, or just hope for the best?

I've read a few opposing opinions, can I get some more info, on what and why you would do either. I'm hoping that the time of year we go, we'll get an upgrade, and I know some will say, if I want it to book it, but like I've said, others have said they wouldn't pay for it again.

So, please help me decide. You guys are wonderful at helping with these type of dilemas!!! Thanks so much!!!

If you're hoping for a free upgrade only request non-smoking. If AKL isn't full you'll have a good chance of a free upgrade.

I did request a NON smoking room, I always do. I guess I'm just wavering on my decision because I've read a few differing opinions on it. I mean, when we get there, if we don't like the view, I have NO problem paying for an upgrade, I'm just wondering if I should wait until we see what view we get first. Some have said it just isn't worth it to pay for the upgrade, so I"m just wondering, and would like some more opinions on it.

We're booked there and have just a standard room booked. We're goin 2/2-2/7. I figure if we get upgraded FANTASTIC, if not fantastic. Really there is so much to see and do there, I doubt the view is gonna make or break your (our) vacation! I will ask though what the cost will be to upgrade when we get there, if I don't get offered a free upgrade. They might have some kind of special deal. I saw once where someone got upgraded to concierge for 30 more per night. I can eat that much in the free food If any upgrades are just too much, than so be it. When we went to AKL, I requested savannah view because I had my heart set on it. Just didn't want to chance an upgrade.

Once we were there, I was glad that I did. I just don't think I would be happy facing the parking lot (and it is right there, just outside the hotel).

If we were to go back, I would be happy with pool view as well as savannah because the pool area is really beautiful to look at.

There are lots of places around the resort to view the animals, so I don't think a savannah view is necessary to enjoy the resort. If you're fine with the standard view room, then don't think twice about it. If you absolutely must have a savannah view, then don't hesitate to reserve it! I think it was well worth the price difference.

We were there the first couple days of our trip and spent lots of time in the room and around the resort just relaxing, so the view was important to us. It may not be as important if you don't plan on spending much time in the room.

I would book what you want. Personally I love waking up in the morning and walking out on my balcony to see the animals and then at night again when returning to my room.

As other posters have already said if you have your heart set on a savannah view book it ahead of time. AKL is good at giving upgrades but there's always that chance that you may not get one. We booked standard and standard is what we got. It really wasn't bad though. We would stay standard again if we had to. There are plenty of places to view animals at this resort. It's a fantastic place to stay with wonderful things to do and see. Our family fell in love with the place. You will have a great time regardless of what view you have.

I have never stayed at AKL, but am dying to. I have discussed it with Dfi and when we do (probably next year, value season) we will be getting savannah view b/c we figure it we are paying the deluxe price we want the whole kitten caboodle. If this is a subsequent trip to AKL and you have already had the savannah view I would just stick with standard and hope for an upgrade.

Thanks everyone!! We are still trying to decide, but I think we will just wait and see.......... if we don't like the view, and if they don't offer an upgrade, we can just pay to move. I agree, I'm just excited to be going, but don't want to see the parking lot!!!!
