If this question has been asked before, I apologize or if this is not the right place. I'm thinking of trying to rent points for a trip in January. We have stayed on site 5 times but have never rented from DVC before and would like to try - although it's a bit scary. Have stayed at the AKL once before in a standard room and loved it but would like to try a savannah view - but it's out of our budget. With renting points here, it might be manageable though. My question is - in January, is there a way to find out if all of the savannahs are open due to the construction? If I'm able to go, I'm taking my niece and I do not want to spend all of that money to find that there are no animals to look at from the balcony. In that case, we would try to rent at OKW or just go back to POR. Thank you so much for any help you can offer, it's very much appreciated.

The only savanna affected is the Sunset Savanna. They are supposed to be assigning rooms based on reservation date with the last reservations made being assigned to the sunset savanna. At this late date, the only savanna rooms available based on reservation date may be on the sunset savanna.

Thank you for your quick reply. I guess I will have to pass on the Animal Kingdom Lodge then. I don't want to take a chance at paying for a view of the animals and then not get it, and knowing that it would be my own fault for not having done my research. Thanks again.

January when? There are currently 3 savannas -- Uzima, Arusha, and Sunset. Sunset is to the left of the U-shaped AKL building. Beginning Jan 15 and until mid-April, there will not be animals in Sunset most of the time. The others will have animals. If a member happens to reserve savanna view and gets Sunset view during that time, the member will be charged only standard view point cost. I believe they will be determining who gets Arusha and Uzima view and who gets stuck with Sunset by the order of reservations for savanna view and that would mean anyone reserving now has a higher chance of getting Sunset and no animals because most members reserve 11 or 7 months out.

I should have been more specific as to the dates, but I'm not sure I can even get off work right now. I'm looking at check in on Jan. 7th and check out on the 14th. I didn't realize that people reserved so far in advance. Does this mean that I would not be able to rent DVC at the last minute or just that there might not be availability? It seemed like people have points for rent at the last minute so I thought I would be able to rent them - but may be those are just for other members so who need additional points? I'm just starting to look into this so I'm getting a bit confused.

I just found the availability thread and it doesn't matter now anyway because there is no availability at any of the DVC resorts for the dates that I want for a studio so I won't be renting anyway - but thanks to all who replied.
