AKL Upgrade

First, thanx everyone for the great information on these boards. It really helps when planning a vacation.

I have called Disney reservations today. I explained we booked our vacation (starting on March 16) through a UK travel agent. We are spending 15 nights in the AKL. My wife is recovering from cancer treatment and the idea is to get around the parks slowly and let her chill and recover whilst the kids have a great time.

However, we have a standard room, and the person a disney dining (when I was doing priority seating - thanx to everyone on these boards for help there too !) said I should call and get an upgrade as we are staying for so long at a delux resort.

The lady at reservations was more than happy to upgrade me on this basis but she couldn't change the booking as it was owned by the UK travel agency, so I couldn't get upgraded

Does anyone know how I can get the upgrade that was offered without having to go through the travel agency who just want to charge me a load more money.

That is correct, you can't change a booking that a travel agency made. I ran into the same problem when I tried to change my sav. view reservations to concierge last January. This is what I did, although depending on your travel agency it might not work for you.

I rebooked another vacation, with the new concierge rooms I just managed to get through frequent phone calls! This was a Friday night, so there was no way to access my travel agent. Come Monday, I emailed my agent and let her know that I rebooked my trip since I finally received the room I really wanted. She was happy for me, too! I faxed all the information to my travel agent, and she changed my (new)reservation into the agencies and cancelled my original reservation.

I hope this makes sense!

gadb1 I don't have any experience with this, but find it hard to believe your travel agent would have the gall to try to overcharge you, knowing you have been directly in touch with WDW!!

BTW - hope you have a fantastic trip, and your wife does not get too tired!! The AKL is a wonderful place to be for relaxation, and I'm sure your whole family will love it!!

Just ask your travel agent. i bet they'll do it for you no problem. If not, book direct and cancel your first ressie.

Unfortunately it is not as simple as cancelling and re-booking. the travel agent is a subset of Virgin Atlantic and they don't operate is quite the same way as the travel agents in the US.

The other problem is that the travel agent does not offer Savannah Rooms anyway, hence the upgrade offer from Disney themselves.

Looks like I will have to settle for the standard room. Never mind I am sure it will be great. After all it is Disneyworld, how bad can it be ?

Last year we booked standard; I **very** politely asked if there was any way we might get Savannah side and we got the free upgrade.

Don't give up; ask when you check in. You might get it yet. Esp. since you are staying for an extended period of time.

When you check-in, you could ask the CM to upgrade your room to a Savanah view. They may do it for free or they may charge you. The charge would be the difference between the standard view and how much you paid for savanah view (we had an AP rate). When I went last May, the CM offered to upgrade us for (I think) $60+ a night to a savanah view. I told her it was too expensive and I couldn't afford that so she agreed with me and did it for free! Good luck Graeme, I hope you're able to get savanah view.
