AKL to AK

I'd just assumed that you could walk from AKL to AK similar to YC/BC/BW to EPCOT, but now I see it's fun on the bus. Anyone know why this was done? It would seem cheaper for Disney to allow people to walk. Also, is there a crush in the morning to get on the bus and how long is the ride - about 30 seconds? Thanks.

don't remember any crunch. bus trip was probably 5 minutes or so. you acually can't see the AK park from AKL.

Hi there... it's a major roadway with quite a bit of traffic and I don't remember seeing any sidewalks.

5 minutes or so by bus but they have a private way in - where the buses go - ...

You would have to walk the public way and I'm thinking it would take quite a while!

It's actually quite a hike to get from AKL to DAK... Sure, via bus it's not a long ride at all, but to walk it, it would be quite a walk.

The roadways to get there are quite busy, and really weren't meant for pedestrian traffic. In addition, you go very close to backstage, and high security areas, so they really don't want pedestrian traffic there.

Thanks. I thought that the AKL was adjacent to the AK. I guess though to be near the Savannah - in order to see animals - that would put it at the back of the park away from the entrance. Thus I guess it makes sense why they need a bus. A walkway would have to go all the way around the park.

Maybe someday they'll put one in like they've done for the MK resorts. Buses are my least favourite part of WDW. I was hoping a stay at the AKL would eliminate one bus trip to the AK

You can NOT walk between the two. The Disney rule seems to be taht you may not walk on any roads that dont have sidewalks. My husband was out jogging on the road between AKL and the Ak one morning and the Mickey Police Van stopped, picked him up, and took him back to the AKL, depositing him in his new jogging path--the AKL parking lot.

We were told that they *might* at some point add a path, but it's not on the short list at this point.

The savannahs at the AKL are completely seperate from the savannahs a the AK. The animals are completely seperate. They never mix.

here's a shot that will give you a good view of how far it really is...

Thanks Anne for the comment and thanks Chip for the picture. That really clears it up. I thought the AKL animals were part of the AK. My bad. They really are far apart with a big forest in between!
