Has anyone stayed in a standard room at AKL? I was wondering which rooms they were and if any had decent balconies. From what I have read some of the balconies tend to be small. There seem to be very few rooms on the map that can face the parking lot -are there that few standard rooms or are there some somewhere else? Also what is the food court like?

Thanks!

We stayed Savannah view but the rooms are standard rooms. I cannot vouch what you would see with a standard view but the rooms are smaller than other Disney hotels. The balcony is big enough for two but there wouldnt be much space between except for a very small coffee table.

As for the food court. We found the Mara to be very good and had a great variety of food with some exoctic food for the trying. There is always plenty of seats should you wish to dine there and even at the worst of times (Breakfast), we could always find a seat. They have a TV playing cartoons all day to keep the kids entertained and we found the service to be very good without a long wait (You order in the line and pickup from the stations as you go through).

I have always wondered the same thing, we booked a standard room last May and unfortunately the gave us an upgrade to a savannah view room. We have booked another standard view room over Thanksgiving coming up, so unless they force an upgrade on us I am also wondering what the view is like.

On a serious note, AKL is an awesome resort and even if we do get a standard room there are so many animal viewing areas you shouldn't have a problem.

Hi AnnR,

There are two types of "standard" rooms at the AKL. There are "standard sized" rooms and a "standard view" room.

There are many standard sized rooms located on floors1 through 4 officially. All three views offer standard sized rooms(standard view, pool view and savanna view).

There are few standard view rooms. Standard view rooms are located on both the Ostrich and the Giraffe trails and face the front of the resort out onto the parking lot area.

All of the rooms have what is referred to as a full balcony(table and two chairs). I know it was just posted the other day that someone said they were told about a balcony that was standing room only but that is the first I have heard about it. I know all of the pool and savanna view rooms have full balconies.

The food court is called Mara. We liked it very much. They had some good choices(pasta primavera, fried shrimp plate, salads and soups).

I hope you have a great trip.

We had a standard view room with a tiny balcony: 5007, on the Giraffe Trail, facing the parking lot. While we loved the resort, the view from the room was nonexistent, since we could only see out through a small "window" cut into the lodge roof. The "balcony" was really just a small, enclosed area, with no room for chairs or a table.

There probably aren't a whole lot of rooms like these; I expect we got it because we'd paid a very low rate and were told the resort was completely full the weekend we were there...

The bottom line is that this is what you COULD get if you've only reserved a standard view room, so if you really need a balcony, ask for a pool or savannah view! Otherwise, keep your fingers crossed...

When you reserve a certain level of room, you are guaranteed at least that level, nothing less. However, only 10% of the rooms have that "Standard View". The other 90% are either pool views or Savannah Views.

If you really want a balcony that doesn't face the parking lot, request a room on the Zebra Trail. We have stayed at AKL twice. Once we reserved a standard view room and requested Zebra Trail 5 days prior to arrival. When we arrived, we were given a pool view. The other time we reserved a Savannah View to make sure we had a Savannah View. Both times the resort was full, first time was Christmas Week and the other was Easter Week. Both times the balcony was the same size. Some of the standard view rooms may have small balconies because some of them are above the Porte cashere (SP?).

We booked a standard view and requested a queen bed. Any idea which area of the resort these are in, and what the view might be?

Thanks!

31 days, and counting down!

Standard rooms have 2 queens in each room. The savahanna view can't be beat and is well worth the extra $$.

I booked a standard view for $109 over starting Nov 29-Dec 4. To me, having a balcony is wonderful regardless of view. If you need a breathe of fresh air, would like to look at the stars and relax or to use as a sancutary (sp?) from a noisy room- is what I will use the balcony for!
If they upgrade me, my daughter would be thrilled BUT I can not justify an extra $30 +11% when I would rather be able to explore the grounds with her and spend the quality time that we brought her to WDW for. I really don't plan on spending a whole lot of time in the room since we are sort of commando style park lovers- we don't rush from ride to ride and miss the all the wonderful thoughtout details of the land but we do stay from opening to closing just because of our adraline rush to be at a place so magical and wonderful. My family will enjoy our surroundings, the new experiences, and being together. Everything else is non exsistant. Have a great time and don't sweat the small stuff!!!

We stayed at AKL last Xmas and had a Standard veiw room. (very cheap rate though). Our room had a balcony over the path to the bus stop. The veiw was just of foiliage. No one could look up into our room from the path though. I did not find this location to be noisy as others have compalined. The AKL is a lovely resort and I would stay in any of their rooms without compalint.

Thanks for all the replies! I booked a standard view room a couple of months ago for $130 -I thought that was a great rate but now I've seen a lot of cheaper rates -how did you get them? The savannah view rooms were $40 more at the time and I could not afford the extra $200 -I figured I would rather have another night without the view. Of course I really won't mind if they decide to upgrade me :D I usually stay in a moderate -this is the first time in a deluxe and my brother and his family will be staying in the same hotel -savannah room. I can't wait to watch my nephews watch the animals!

From all the posts I have been reading, it seems as if the balconies that are small and have a small opening are on the 5th floor. Is this right?

Doe anyone know where I can go to use the internet while at Disney -preferably near AKL

Please let me know any more info

Ann

In August the Indiananpolis Star had rates for AKL for $119/night for a standard view. Moderates were $85 and Value from $55. The code was CKO. May be expired now or only for Indiana residents.

My rate is either an AP or a Florida resident rate. I can't remember which one. This will also be our first time at a deluxe. We are very rarely at our room because we love the parks so much but when that rate came out and my daughter has also wanted to stay at AK, I couldn't resist!
