We spent a week at AKL this past December and had a Savanah view room. If I had to do it over again, I'd get a pool view room instead. While it was nice seeing the animals from our room, I really didn't like the fact that I was being watched on an unknown number of video cameras. Something about that just bothered me and took away from the experience. Before some of you lecture me about the reasons for the cameras, I know why they have them. It's to make sure the animals are not being fed by the guests and to make sure the guests aren't trying to climb down from the balconies. It still doesn't change the fact I felt like I was being watched all the time.
I also question if it was worth the extra expense for the room. There is a substantial price jump from a standard or pool view room to the savanah room. Like several others have said, there are tons of places to see the animals around the resort. Besides, after about day 4 of seeing Ankole cattle outside my window, I almost felt like I was back at the farm instead of Africa. Maybe I'm spoiled because of where I live and the animals I see in their natural habitat, but to me, seeing a bunch of animals gathered around a pile of feed didn't do anything for me after a few days. It just didn't feel "natural".
I loved the resort. I think the theming and atmosphere is the best of all the WDW resorts. I just think that there is a lot more to it than just the savanah rooms.
