We just returned from a wonderful week at AKL. Our bags did not. :headache:When you head to baggage claim and hear your name being called to come to the 'baggage services', it's probably not a good thing.

Jetblue informed us that those who used ME at the resort had an issue and their luggage didn't make it. :eek:I'm not sure if this was just for AKL or all resorts today.

My belongings have made it to my area airport. They should be delivered to me tomorrow. :worried:

Let's just imagine that one of the baggage trucks got into an accident on the way to the airport. That would create an issue with a group of guests who stayed at one resort or at a few or even several different resorts.

After a bag is checked at the Resort Airline Check-in desk at a resort, it is under airline control.

Are you talking about checked luggage or your carry ons because DME has nothing to do with the checked bags. If you went to the RAC counter and checked in your luggage, then as SeashoreCM said, they are then the responsibility of the airline. Think of it as curbside check in, but the curb is at your resort instead of the airport.

DME is the bus service that got you and your carry ons to the airport. If you gave the bus driver your carry ons and he forgot to load them under the bus, then, yes, DME is responsible. However, it doesn't sound like your carry ons were the problem.

I noticed you posted this on the resorts boards as well. Not sure if you are just venting, looking for guidance or trying to see if others had the same experience? Unfortunately, snags with baggage happen, at least it was on your way home and not at the beginning of your vacation.

Many people, Disney included, tend to lump RAC in with DME. And usually that's just fine. But, when there's an issue, as the OP had, then all bets are off. The RAC employees are not truly Disney employees...heck, even the DME employees aren't Disney employees..they are Mears employees (to the best of my knowledge).
When you use RAC, as soon as you hand those bags off to the RAC employee, the bags are no longer under Disney 'protection', so to speak. Sure, there could be an issue...the luggage truck could break down, or it could be in an accident. But here's the issue. YOu have to have your bags, checked in, boarding pass in hand, no less than 3 hrs prior to flight departure time. I would think that would be plenty of time to get bags to the terminals for airline pickup. You have to check in, and check bags, no less than what, 40 mins prior to departure, at the airport?? If a truck has an issue, it should be very easy to send another truck. Unless that first truck waited too long to leave to begin with.

But, we all need to remember that unless you are talking about the actual ride on the DME bus, or the luggage handling at the start of your trip, you aren't really talking about DME. That would be RAC.

I'm not sure where they were lost along the way. We checked in at AKL and when our flight landed and we were paged to the luggage services they asked 'did you use magical express?' I replied 'yes' and was told 'ME bags did not make the flight.'

Yes, I posted this on the Resorts board also, mainly because I wasn't sure where to post it. I'm glad it happened on my flight home instead of my flight there, but it's annoying to sit at home waiting for my belongings. Especially because I have no groceries in the house.

I'm guessing it was an issue with RAC (and its just more likely you use RAC if you use ME).

As for it being an issue on the way home and not the way there... well if it had anything to do with the Disney side of the equation this would only be a big issue on the way home. On the way there Disney would just find your bags and deliver them to your room a bit late. No waiting around needed.

OP, things happen with baggage all the time. I was in Reno last year for a the Open Bowling tournament. I stood at baggage claim and watched as everyone else picked up their bags. Finally, the belt stopped and I strolled over to the luggage office. They scanned my tags and told me that my bag was on the next flight in. I was lucky I didn't bowl until the next day, because these were my bowling balls. They offered to bring them to my hotel, but I was actually coming back to the airport to pick a buddy up who was on the same flight as my bags.

Honestly, it amazes me that there are not more mis-directed bags! Every flight that I have been on with a short connection has resulted in all of my luggage making it...... the Reno trip was from my HOME airport and they didn't make the flight there.....

Glad you had a good trip and that your bags are on their way home....
