AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

We are at AKL standard room from July 30th to August 2nd. Just a short trip this time and our first at AKL! Only 43 more days until I am back at Disney!

Hi All,

We're going December 6-15. On the 6-9 it will be me and my husband and then on the evening of the 9th my sister and neices (14 & 12) will be joining us.

We are DVC owners at SSR, but wanted to stay somewhere else on this trip. At 11 months out we booked SSR, and changed on the first day we could. I got up at 6:00 am at the 7 month mark. My husband kind of wanted the Epcot DVCs, but we were good with either AK or MK resorts.

It took a few calls and days but we finally ended up with Kidani Village for the last 7 nights. A few days later we were able to move the first 2 nights from SSR to AKL. We're in a 1 bedroom the first two and a two bedroom for the rest. We also waitlist Boardwalk and Beach Club, but I just cancelled those, because we're all excited about AKL.

This is my nieces first trip since they were 6 and 8, although they've been to Disneyland a couple of times. We're trying to make this as magical as we can for them (the 14 year is very concerned about missing school). So far, we've got BOG (up at 4am to book that!), CRT, MVMCP and the Fantasmic lunch package. With them, we'll spend one day at each park, and a day at Harry Potter. My sister and I are very excited about planning this trip.

Any suggestions for things to make this trip more magical? The kids are both Gluten Free, and I think my sister is most excited about how well Disney works with that. Ideas for anything are welcome.

And add me to list please.

Hey Everyone! We're planning our 4 night stay at AKL-Kidani in a 2BR Savannah View with my parents! :scared: (Then hopping to VWL for 2 studios for 4 nights!) Just wondering if anyone has any advice on location requests for Kidani. We would like to be in one of the first few sections on the left side, as I feel that's centrally located between the buses and the pool. However, we have never stayed at Kidani, so I don't know what is good and bad! :confused3 Only once at Jambo. So is that a decent request? Any specific room numbers you can recommend? When we stayed at BLT I knew to ask for north tower, even room, high floor, and even though we payed for Lake View, We still had perfect view of MK, it was just to the left side! Thanks in advance!

We stayed 2BR SV in April with our parents for my baby brother's 50th BD. As my father has mobility issues, I requested near lobby. We got the first room on the left which was just past the public viewing balcony on the Sunset Savannah. It was a great location, lots of animals, not at all noisy. It was also a dedicated 2BR.

...by choice or for health reasons? As a spouse of someone who has Celiac, it is so comforting to know that the folks at WDW really go the extra mile to accommodate those on a GF diet. I found this to be especially true at AKL. Arol, who is at Jambo, works both at Boma and the Mara, and he absolutely went out of his way to gives my DH some pleasing (and delicious!) dining options....

Hello AKL fans!! I am thinking of jumping ship from WL to AKL because of the pool being closed at WL during my dates. I am now looking into AKL and it looks amazing. Quick question, if I requested a "pool view" room, does that mean we would likely be near the entrance to Jambo house? That would be nice as it seems like a huge resort!! Thanks for the help!

I don't know about the proximity to the lobby but did want to mention that Pool View is not a request at AKL. It's a bookable category. Wanted to make sure you noticed that. Sort of like the Courtyard View at WL. Near elevators is a request you can put in, which should keep you closer to the lobby area.

Did you look at the room map at Touring Plans? That is probably a good place to start. The pool view area is relatively close to the lobby

You're right! It is a bookable category! Much better than a request! Even at the farthest end of the pool, it still seems pretty close to lobby and transportation.

Thanks!

We had a pool view in 2012 and the hallway ran along the gift shop right in the front of the Jambo House. It was a perfect location? Funny you are thinking about moving resorts. We are going again this September and were to stay at WL. With the pool closure coming up, I called and booked AKL and yes! They still had FD promo rooms available, and we saved a little over $200!!! Booked pool view again. We are excited!

Celiac so not a choice.

In September, we took the kids to Disneyland, and they were amazing. Even though both kids were tweens at the time, they were thrilled to have both Mickey pancakes and waffles.

Does anyone know if the creme brulee in Jikko can be made without the Madeline?

Thanks.

If I am going to switch, I guess I should act fast then! Might bump into you in our pool view section! :)

I have to admit, I was underwhelmed with how lackadaisical they were in Disneyland when we went in Feb. It was almost as if we were lying to them about having a wheat allergy, and it appeared more bothersome for them. It also felt like they weren't prepared for these situations. ...No way near the same as in WDW. ...Here they go above and beyond to make sure every thing is to your liking, and to make sure your well fed, without worries,(No matter what restaurant) .

Either route,have a great gluten free trip...:thumbsup2

I have requested room 3010 and 3020 and they were in the gift shop hallway facing the pool. It is perfect and there is an elevator that takes you down to the pool...I love lobby level rooms! Nice at the end of the day not to have to walk and walk and walk and then get in an elevator!

Thanks. Interesting that we had such a different experience. At every restaurant we spoke with the chefs, the servers did a lot of checking, etc. At the character breakfast at the Plaza Inn, the chef came back with a beautiful plate of waffles and fruit for them.

At the Taste Pilot Grill, they told my sister that the burgers with the GF buns would take about 15 minutes, so the kids left to go single rider ride Grizzly Falls. 5 minutes later, burgers arrived. So it was all good.

Glad that WDW will be as good if not better!

Actually as I'm thinking now. The blue bayou was excellent all around. Food and their willingness to take care of us. The other spots either ran out of Gluten free buns,or bread, or didn't have much( if any) dessert selections. Mainly a dry cookie at best.

You 'll definitely have an awesome experience in WDW for sure.

My ds (11) and I r staying july 26th to August 2nd. This is our first time staying at this resort. We booked a pool view room with out pass holder discount and was wondering what the best room to have is. We r so excited to b staying here. Any suggestion or tips would b great. Thanx

Thank you so much! Do you remember your room number? What floor were you on? Did you see Giraffes, Zebras, little pigs, and everything? Someone in an earlier post was making it sound like depending on what savannah you chose, determined what animals you saw?!? It was NOT like that at Jambo, but :confused3...

7604 (Had to look at my pics to remember!), and it was the lobby level floor. It does depend on the savannah which animals. We requested Sunset as they have the giraffes, which my mother loves. They also had the zebras, but I don't remember the red river hogs. There were a lot of active giraffes and zebras. Even saw a zebra backing up to kick a young giraffe, then the giraffe turned the tables and kicked the zebra!:lmao: We were thrilled with the activity in our location.
