AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what time the storytelling and the campfire start this month? Are these one and the same or two separate events? Trying to figure out our arrival evening plans and would love a timeframe for this.

I believe you are talking about the same thing... The campfire (Oguns firepit) is outside by the viewing area..(Arusha Rock) There they make smores and the CM's talk about anything you want to know..Its an awesome history lesson you get while staying here.:) There's also another firepit inside just above the lounge in the main lobby...Only have it here if its raining outside.

We are arriving in 10 days for a 2 night stay on DVC pts with a Kidani Village Savannah view. I'm doing online check in and can make a rm request. If we want the best chance at seeing animals which choice is our best bet? As well as not being too far away from amenities (main pool/bus stop).
Choices:
Pembe Savannah view
Sunset Savannah View
Upper Floor
Lower Floor
near elevator
Near Lobby

Which would you choose & why?
Thanks!

Thanks for this information! I'm glad that we should be able to swim a bit in the morning that day. :-) We figure we will watch the "show" on our balcony for a while and then hit the pool! Thanks again!

...I don't think it's so much that the pool is closed - there are no lifeguards on duty very early in the morn after a certain time in the evening...

Sunset Savannah and Lower Floor. Sunset has more animals and lower floor puts you closer to the animals. Enjoy! :goodvibes

Thank you! Any idea about what time they start this? Is it before it gets dark, right at sunset maybe, or do they wait until it actually gets dark? I looked up the sunset times for when I get there and it says about 7:30…..

The story telling at the firepit is usually around 6:30-7:15, it does vary slightly by time of year.

There is also (or at least there was this past February!) a marshmallow roast over a firepit. That was also on Arusha Rock, but hidden a bit: after exiting the Lodge, walk to the 1st CM stand, then look to the left! They were doing that when it was still light out (around 4-4:30pm in February) - but that was before daylight savings time. :confused3

We are going to be staying at AK 1 night before our POFQ package begins. I saw on the first post it mentioned night vision tracking. Can anyone tell me about that? Also what else might the resort have that me and my boys could get into? They are 7 and 9. We have a pool side room, but we also like to wander around and explore. Any advice or tips are appreciated! Thanks!

At check in make sure they give you an activities list. It will show you all the fun things going on at the resort during your stay and the times and days offered. The activities are also posted on the wall by bell services. Night vision goggles are usually offered at 9p on the lookout just past the checkin area. We love AKL!!! There is always tons of things going on. My DS 12 loves talking to all the cast members in the lobby. He has learned so much about the animals and Africa from these CM's. Makes be feel a little less bad for taking him out of school for vacation:). Enjoy!!!

Does anyone have or know where to find a room map that lists which room have king beds? We are going with our three year old and would like for him to sleep in between us so that he does not fall out of bed.

Go to touringplans.com and click on WDW > hotels > AKL. It has a great 'room finder' app on there that shows where all the rooms are. Just use the drop down menus on the left to find what you're looking for :)

I love that idea, but I don't think it will work for you.

If he is 3 they won't allow you to have a king room--he'd count as a tenant of the room who needs his own sleeping spot. King rooms only sleep 2. If he were under 3, he wouldn't need a ticket/wouldn't count as an occupant and you might be able to swing it.

Bed rails are available to pin him in :) Even on one side it helps for peace of mind.

....I guess they've moved. They used to be located beyond the hot tub at the far end of the pool [to the left].The CMs from Africa handled the night-vision goggles. We were told they cost $3,500 each....

Thank you for the heads up. I will need to speak with them and see if they can make an exception. I don't understand why they would not.

....a little closer to getting a countdown thingie for AKL.....
