AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

Well that's kind of my thinking, KWIM?

OTOH, we are firm believers in "the kids don't belong" in some locations and want to be respectful of those who DO have the option.

I like the idea of getting the drink and sitting pit-side - does sound divine!

I'm not one to drag my kids into a bar and let them run around and irritate people. However, I wasn't sure if VL was a really nice lounge and minors were not allowed by rule, or if it was open to the lobby where it could be easy to swing in for a drink and sit near the outside or in a corner, or in another nearby area. I don't want to put my kids in minimum 2 hr childcare to have a cocktail before dinner...

I've never taken my kids to Disney before - only went once when hubby and I were first married, and we certainly would have given the evil eye to kids in a bar back in those days! :)

Seems like it's no rule (which I am glad to hear!).

It's not like it's Coyote Ugly and it's inappropriate for kids to be in there ;)

I moved my reservation today.. Since we were at AKL last weekend and I need to go to Windermere Saturday morning, I switched to WL for $3. More..

Well, it's been a few years, but I'm back following again. Everyone was so helpful our last trip, and I need help again, lol. We are currently double-booked at WL and AKL 12/14-12/28. Originally booked the DV FD promo at WL (DH wants to try it)in a Woods View bunkbed room last night. All day I've been thinking about how beautiful AKL was during Dec in 2011 when we stayed for 10 nights. I fell in love with the resort, animals, both pools, restaurants...everything. The bus was a non-issue the whole trip. The kids (DS13 DD8) loved it. We were on the DP then also and between bfast and dinner, I'm pretty sure we ate at Boma's 4 times bc the kids kept wanting to go back. Anyhow, I went ahead and booked AKL pool view (had it last time and liked it) bunk bed this evening. Now I just need all your expertise to help me decide which to keep. Everyone talks about how convenient the boat is at WL but my thought is this: It was awesome when we used it to go to Whispering Canyon from MK last trip, but it was warm that time. We were at WDW in 2010 and froze our Minnesota butts off. I can't imagine utilizing the boat if it's a cold winter. I've seen both resorts decorated for Christmas and they're both beautiful. Rooms seem equal too. We're comfortable using Disney transportation to get wherever we need to go, so the fact that WL is close to MK or AKL is close to AK isn't swaying me toward either one. What would you pick for a 2 week visit over Christmas if you had to pick between these two?? Obviously, I love AKL, but I need help convincing DH that we should stick with it. He loved it too...just curious to try something else. I know you all will have amazing opinions and advice for me!!!! :cheer2:

Just switched from POFQ to AKL with FD today. DH and I will be there 11/10 - 11/17/14 so add us to the November list. One day of Food and Wine Festival and MVMCP. Doesn't get any better than that. This is our first stay at AKL.

What a terrible dilemma you have!!! :rotfl: Both resorts are beautiful; both are comparable.......... decisions, decisions!! :scratchin

I am a very big fan of split stays. Disney really makes it pretty easy! Since your family is planning a 2-week trip, any chance you could split - a week at WL and a week at AKL? That's what I would do if I had your "problem"! :thumbsup2

If a split stay is out of the question, you really do have a very hard decision to make! "Location" seems to me to be the only real difference. AKL, to me, is always like a vacation within a vacation. Once you get back to the resort, the peace, quiet and beauty of the place makes me feel far removed from the "theme park vacation"! WL is also beautiful and often peaceful & quiet too, but you can look across the lagoon and see MK and really feel immersed in the magic! :goodvibes

Whatever your decision, you're going to Disney World!! It doesn't get much better than that! :woohoo::yay:

....I don't know if you know this, but the architect/designer is the same for both lodges, so there are marked similarities between both. I've stayed at both; you can't miss at either one. However, since you are going during Christmas, hands-down the WL is, by far, the BEST DECORATED RESORT for the Holidays....

Hope it's ok for me to post this link. I think many of the pics will be of interest. The blogger stayed at AKL CL just before Easter and has pics of the rooms, (bedspreads gone! - which is new to me) CL lounge, and lobby - including "graduation" pics of some Cultural Representatives.

I am quite jealous of your dilemma!! I also vote split stay - I hear it's pretty easy! We were really stuck deciding between AKL and WL... would have done a split stay if we were staying longer. Went for the animals for my son, to offset all the princess for my daughter :)

WL has the boat to MK, I think that's an advantage over AKL, although not having stayed there, not sure how well it all works out.

...wow, that's weird....is that the only resort that you cannot get Free Dining? :confused3 And, why would they choose POR? :confused3

No, it's not the only one excluded. POFQ is also. And like with most promos, LM rooms at AoA and majority of deluxe Villa's. Seems like Fort Wilderness is also. Really though, most all those are usually excluded. POR is a newer addition to the exclusion list.
