Hi all, I'm new to the AKL board! I posted this on the FAQ but it doesn't seem to get much traffic so I thought I would ask here. I'm planning our first trip to the lodge in January 2010 and there will be three little girls age 5 in our party. Looking over the list of AKL activities offered during the day, I see many that look very interesting and I think the girls would enjoy them. It says that the list was updated September 2006. Are the activities and times still mostly the same or have their been any changes? I'm interested in the bead activities. Does anyone have any pictures of the beads earned from these? I'd really appreciate any info anyone can give me! Thanks!

Caity

Hey Caity-you'll have an awesome time at the AKL. I think the kid's activities at the AKL are the most diverse and best done at any of the resorts. When we were there December '06-there were both bead activities and non bead activities-a non bead activity was something like decorating cookies in Boma-they were pretty nice too-large butterflies and you could then ice them and take them with-they had nice boxes to take them in...,there are stories everynight by the fire pit, etc....

There were about 6 bead activities-we tried to do one each day we were there-they were educational in nature (but fun) and you got a bead for each one completed and if you completed all 6-there was a talisman kind of bead-my son and daughter both did them and I believe we still have at least on of the completed bracelets -I'll go through the Dis box from that trip tommorrow and if I can find it I''ll take a picture for you...-one was a tracking simulation activity, one was the different way birds fed-highlighting some on site pelicans and flamingos..., etc.

You could easily spend a time at the resort without going to the parks and have tons to do but that can be difficult as you are at Disney World...

Hi, Caity! Glad you found us!!

Here's a link to a post from Jay's 2007 trip report. In this post, she describes one of the bead activities and has pictures of her kids participating!

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=20920707&postcount=50

I can't remember if she posted any pictures of the beads, but if you spend some time reading her TR, you'll get some GREAT information about the kids' activities! :thumbsup2

In case you haven't seen this one yet, here's a thread where I posted the activities (kids & adults!) offered in September 2008. The information (and a picture!) is in posts 3, 4, 5 & 7:

Ok-I just found a whole ziplock bag of stuff from our AKL trip-Dec. 06...

I also realized that I have a "box of shame" of large ziplock bags from the past 2 1/2 years of memories/trips that I had promised my self that I would "get to scrapbooking"-hasn't happened-Wendy Pooh where are you? (or any scrapbooker-I need a Scrapbooking 101 -maybe Michaels or Creative Memories...

Anyway as usual I digress...

I have a treasure trove of photos and "stuff" from that trip-I'll post tonight when I have access to my technology expert-my 14 yr. dd-I just got a Macbook for mother's day/birthday and i'm getting up to speed...

I have several cute (If I do say so myself photos of dd and ds doing several of the activites, a great picture of a cookie my daughter made and a box they gave us to put it in...

I'll also photo their bracelets which are cute-beads are very African-not super girly-I guess so boys can do them too...ds was 4+-he did one....

The activity card at the time lists the 5 following "bead" activities

Add beads to your string of memories! Please join us for the following activities:

Flamingo Activity-9:30-Flamingo Pond
Track the Animals-10:30-12:20-Arusha Rock
Garden Safari-2:00-4:30-Flamingo Pond
Music of the Savanna-5:00-Sunset Lounge
Wildlife Games-7:00-Sunset Lounge

*Activities take between 10-15 minutes

Plus there are other non bead activities...The CMs were fabulous...

I also have some really nice turn down cards they left on our pillows-(we were in Pool View-I don't know how we got turndown...I think we may have just asked...:confused3

I also found a napkin from Jiko???:confused3 I missed that dinner (because I was sick:sick:-but I insisted that DH go down with the kids...did he swipe a napkin...:sad2:?

Wow-I should have written a report on this trip-looking at the photos it was really great but now I've forgotten some of the details...:confused3-lesson to self for August...

Anyhow I hope that helps a bit and I have about a dozen photos I'll post tonight...

First time photo post test - hope it works!

OOPs-technical difficulties....:confused3

I find photobucket.com is the easiest site (for me anyway!! ;)). I create an album and use the "bulk uploader" to upload the pictures. Then all you have to do is copy the IMG code and paste into your post for each picture you want us to see! :goodvibes When I think I'm ready, I "preview post" to make sure the pictures are showing up before I hit "submit reply".

HTHs! :)

Great photos! Thank you so much for posting them! I've always wanted to see what the beads looked like -- when we were at AKL we didn't have the time to participate in any of those activities...:sad2:... I'm really hoping that on our next trip we can find more time to "hang out" at AKL.:cloud9:

Thanks for the great photos, Aurora.... um, I mean Patricia! ;)
