Not depressing to me. I am totally amazed that after dating for 4 years, 36 years of marriage, 11 houses and 2 kids we can still stand the sight of one another! :rotfl2:

:rotfl:

I just meant the idea that the wife isn't "holding up [her] side of things" :confused3
But I know it's just supposed to be funny. I'm not meaning to be Debbie Downer

And to those of us "outsiders" who have met you, you 2 really seem to LIKE each other too!!! That's REALLY saying something!! :rotfl:

I have done this at least 10 times, with good luck each and every time. It is usually cheaper than paying Disney their rack rate for a room in a Deluxe resort and the accommodations are equal or sometimes better for our situation on a trip. I am fortunate that I do have a friend with points she and her DH are not using a lot right now and can almost always rent from them, but if you rent from an owner with a good history you will have no trouble at all.

Elin, thanks for the reply! :goodvibes Renting from someone you know is of course the best solution. But as far as I can see, there are a number of offers around from people who rent out regularly here on the DIS. I guess I would be rather comfortable with them. I love the idea of getting a studio without having to pay rack price for it. And since I have to make plans quite a bit in advance anyway when I book flights, it seems a good option. Of course now I have to think about where to stay - I am thinking split stay at AKL and BC

Oh and I loved your funny story! :rotfl2:

Flossbolna-I like the luggage! I need a need suitcase/carryon-and that is really attractive-in fact my new travel scheme (for trips one week and under ) is that I get the whole family into new carryones that will hold all their stuff for the week-we always have too much- I think a decent size handbag-like a tote-a backbag if you are a guy-and a nice carryon might just be the way to go-now Disney of course has Magic Express-but unfortunatley the rest of the world doesn't operate that way...(we are supposed to be in Paris in December for a week-and the less luggage the better-might try to sneak in a day to Paris Disney-we'll see...;)

Anyhow, I truly hope everyone is doing well-the weather is really stinky here and the last week rough for everyone chez moi:sad2:-but we're going to hold our heads up and move on forward...:)

This board always cheers and planning a D trip always cheers so here are a couple of questions I'm hoping someone will care to answer...

1. If my DS is turning 7 the week before the trip-but we can't go on the actually date (due to DH's schedule-etc.) do you think it is ok to pick a day and have it be his Disney B-day-ie I know we can't get the free admission-but do you think its ok to get a Birthday Pin, etc.-also thought it would be nice to order a cake from the bakery at AKL and have it sent to room???-has any done this recently-I've read the thread and I know they used to have that gorgeous Indamba-ok I know my special is wrong with the chocolate animals and cookies-but they don't anymore and I'm not so sure the truffles are him-me maybe -but not him-I wouldn't really want one of those frozen cakes that you can get through the parks but something more specific to the lodge...

2. I absolutely adore the lodge-Obviously-and have eaten at Boma for breakfast and dinner. I missed my Jiko dinner because I got sick...:sad2:. Now Sanaa is open...:goodvibes...Do you think that making reservations for Boma dinner and breakfast, Sanaa dinner and Jiko is overkill? I want to spend at much out of park time at the Lodge (although-we will be going to Blizzard Beach and Downtown Disney...DS found out-through me...:confused3 about Goofy's Candy Company and the Lego store and Once Upon a Toy-and you get the picture-he is so there-::cool1:...

On one hand, I think the food at Boma (since that's the only one I've eaten at is awesome and very different than any thing at home plus its very lodge specific, on the other hand:confused3 is my family going to lose their minds-will everything start to taste to much alike? -not to mention those cute little bento box lunches over at Kidani-did everyone see those-are those CS credits if you are on Dining Plan...

Hmmmm...what to do....what to do...(I know all life should have such tough..decisions...:lmao:...

Hope everyone is doing well...Have a good day...:goodvibes

1. I say, go for it. Bob and I couldn't get to WDW for our actual 35th anniversary last year so we picked September instead of July and celebrated on the 28th that trip. It was lots of fun, and it made us feel like we really were celebrating our anniversary. I don't think WDW is cracking down on the buttons and the well-wishing, so I say do it! :goodvibes

2. I think I could do breakfast at Boma every morning. Adding in a dinner there and one at Jiko and also Sanaa wouldn't be too much for me, I don't think. The menus appear to be quite different. Again, I say DO IT! ;)

PracPerfPatricia Sorry your family had a rough week :sad1: Planning a WDW trip is my favorite cure for that for sure :yay:

Re. your son's birthday, I know that people do what you're talking about all the time, so I wouldn't hesitate from celebrating a bit late! The birthday pin, if he is comfortable with that ;) and a cake to honor his birthday would be so festive!

As far as dining at AKL - Do not miss Jiko! :cloud9:

You weren't!! :goodvibes
Thanks

...they ARE cute.....

How did I miss the info on the "bento boxes" at Kidani?:confused3 Can someone please point me in the right direction? I was expecting to find more info on Kidani, but I guess that the people lucky enough to stay there this week are still there enjoying themselves, while the rest of us wait for info and photos...:sad2: It's a hard life!:rotfl:

This was the first Kidani live report: Start at post #127. "Constant" did a great job of posting info and pictures! :thumbsup2

I think carry-ons are a great idea, unfortunately I need too many liquids, I never manage without checked luggage. A week in Paris sounds lovely and I agree: the less luggage the better!

As others said, I think it is no problem to celebrate your DS's birthday a bit late. I have read so many trip reports where people celebrated their birthday for a whole week.

I think your plan to eat at all AKL restaurants makes perfect sense. In my opinion the food is actually very different. Africa is a huge continent and has many different cuisines. This is very well represented by the different restaurants. Boma for me is more about North Africa/Arab (falafel, hummus etc.) but also Equatorial Africa (pap). Sanaa appears to be rather East African, where a lot of Indians live due to the British colonalization, therefore the tandoori and curry dishes. It reminds me very much of Indian food. Jiko really is the least African restaurant. I always think it might be a sofisticated modern South African restaurant. Lots of European (Dutch and British) influence, but still making use of the traditional offerings of Africa.

So I am sure you will have three very different meals. And breakfast at Boma is just a fantastic breakfast. One thing I would consider is trying Sanaa for lunch if you do midday breaks at the hotel. This would free up an evening if you need it. Otherwise I really like to have dinner at the hotel I am staying at, it is just so relaxed!! :goodvibes

I love it...Flossbolna-this is perfect..if anyone asks about the AKL foods-I plan on quoting you- verbatim...:thumbsup2

You guys are great...I love being able to get support to do what I actually want to do anyway...:lmao:...which is to book all three AKL restaurants...:goodvibes!

I also agree that there is something really relaxing/luxiourious about being able to eat at your resort-just one of the things that make AKL so special and now with a third restaurant on property...:cool1: (I love the Wilderness Lodge -but I think the dining is much more limited-although you have easy access to the Comtemporary via ferry and then the monorail which I suppose gives you the Poly and the GF as well.)---well anyhow I'm going to work in breakfast, lunch and dinner at the AKL...

And we will pick a day during our trip to celebrate DS's bday-probably at the MK (Space is scheduled to be down-only sad thing...) or maybe the Studios (he loves the Sci Fi and Star Tours and badly wants to see the Car stunt show...)-it'll only be a week after his real bday anyway...

Thanks guys-this thread always cheers me up-you are all such enablers-and I mean that in a positive way-if any of you need any enabling-I am more than happy to provide it...::grouphug:.

...well, SOMEONE needs a reprimanding!!! Why weren't they posted HERE too??!?!? :badpc: :furious: :headache: [...okay, now I feel better...]

Ha ha. ::furious: is one of my MOST favorite emoticons... I like to re-create it LIVE at home!

I know that most of you on here are not as old as I am ;) but maybe you can appreciate this as much as I did when I got it in my inbox from a much younger friend this morning. My DH and I celebrated our 35th anniversary last July, BTW...

Older Women

After being married for 35 years, I took a careful look at my wife one day and said, 'Honey, 35 years ago we had a cheap apartment, a cheap car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep every night with a hot 22-year-old gal.

Now I have a $500,000.00 home, a $45,000.00 car, nice big bed and plasma screen TV, but I'm sleeping with a 60-year-old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things.

My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me to go out and find a hot 22-year-old gal, and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving a cheap car, sleeping on a sofa bed and watching a 10-inch black and white TV.

Aren't older women great? They really know how to solve a mid-life crisis...

:rotfl2: That was great!

Flossbolna, one thing to keep in mind if you rent points is that the member actually controls the reservation not you. I bring this up because I have seen posts on the DVC boards about some people being very nervous about not controlling their own reservation.

I am glad we could help! :goodvibes Hope your DS has a magical day at MK or the Studios. :cheer2: Celebrating a birthday at WDW is great. I still remember my first trip when I was there for my birthday and everyone kept saying Happy Birthday to me because of my birthday button. :goodvibes

Donald, thanks for the advice. :goodvibes I am aware of the fact that renting points involves quite a bit of trust. Being a lawyer and having worked at the DA's office, I am aware of the risks of being cheated. But I still believe that it is possible to take safeguards to minimize risks. However, this is one of the reasons why I am still hesitating whether it is the right thing for me...
