Hi, I am undecided as to whether AKL( Savannah View) in Feb will be worth $14 per point or if we should try for BCV for less? Any opinions? Staying w/ DH and 3 kiddos under 8 for four nights. Would love any/ all opinions!
:)

I think it's a bargain, considering that many AKV owners still wont have had their first stay there.

Hmmmmm.

It is hard for others to put monetary value on your personal wants, but since you asked ;)

1) If I had AKV points, I be charging $15.00 each, so already I think you are getting a good deal.

2) Compared to Disney's rack rates, by renting DVC Points you are already getting a GREAT DEAL!

3) BCV has the nicest pool (mini-water park), *BUT* it is so spread out, that watching three kids will be difficult, unless you restrict them to the same area of storm along bay. Is the resort pool, the most important aspect of your vacation? How much does constant parental vigilance at SAB detract from it?

4) Animals. Does your family like 'em? Or do you work at a park, and they bore you? You may see many from your room, or few. How much time will you spend in your room?

Now my bias:

BCV is built, no hammering, no construction noises, equipment or inconveinence.

BCV is in a busy, bustling area, quick easy commutes to EPCOT (Kids under 8 may not consider that a plus) and MGM (kids under 8 may consider that a plus).

BCV has good and varied food choices.

AKV, off the beaten track, fancy, but 'unusual' offerings in Boma and Jiko. Disney transport, or driving to get anywhere.

BCV would be my choice right now.

Of course, if value is your # 1 factor, Value resorts, off-site resorts, or package plans and specials (such as free dining) maybe a better value for you, or at least worth considering.

Enjoy your vacation!

How old are your children? If all are over three you would need a 2bdr at the BC (1br sleep 4) for a party of five, whereas you could get by with a full-size (non-value) 1br at AKV as they sleep five.

Actually, not yet. She would need a 2-bedroom at either location. The 1-bedroom DVC units that sleep five will be in Kidani Village - the new building that doesn't open until 2009. Right now all units are in Jambo House - the existing AKL building - and have the same occupancy limits as the other DVC resorts.

Actually most of the 1BRs at Jambo House will sleep 5. Only the "Value" 1BRs sleep 4. But the 1BRs in Jambo House do not have the second bathroom -- you will only get 2 bathrooms in a 1BR villa in Kidani Village.

Here is some occupancy info from the public DVC website from the AKV FAQs page:

What is the maximum occupancy in the rooms?

The maximum occupancy for both Jambo House and Kidani Village accommodations is as follows:

Studios = up to 4
One-Bedrooms = up to 5 (Value Accommodations sleep up to 4 only)
Two-Bedrooms = up to 9, (Value Accommodations sleep up to 8 only)
Three-Bedroom Grand Villas = up to 12
The increased occupancy in most One-Bedroom and Two-Bedroom Vacation Homes is due to the addition of a sleeper chair in the living room.

Yeah, what Lisa said.

Also it depends on when you are going! AKV is brand new, so not many rooms available yet. BCV is one of the smaller DVC resorts so not much availability when times are popular. Depending on when you are going, availability may be the deciding factor. If you are planning on any time early December through the end of the year, best have a backup plan because neither one of 'em will have room!

I agree with Diane, To the OP, have you checked what a Savanna room rents for, much less the 2 bedroom that you are needing? A real deal.

Assuming all you need is a 1 bedroom during dream season for 1 week BCV is 252 pts AKV is savanna view is 234 pts. assuming you could get BCV points for $10 the difference is $756 more for AKV if BCV is $12 the difference is $252. If you eliminate the weekends the difference in price is less. What amazes me is all the buzz about AKV in the first place it wasn't a big seller as a hotel to begin with now it is demanding a premium for points. I would take the BCV now and go to AKV in a year or to when they can't give it away.
