We are currently at AKL, booked a 1 bed CL which was excellent on arrival. On return to the resort on Sunday evening at 10pm we were met by a CM who informed us that the room had a leak and we had to move.
The new room is on the fifth floor but possibly the furthest away from the lounge that it could be.
I know that these things happen so I asked for a refund of the nights points which they did do. We book this room primarily for lounge convenience as we like to pop in and out. I asked if we could have the difference in savannah view and CL points also returned for the remaining nights but they have only offered the difference in value and savannah. They have stated that we still have club level (which we do but a five minute walk)
I’ve spoken to a manager on the front desk but will escalate today. What do you think?

Honest opinion, if you had points returned to you already and you still have access to club level, why do you need more?
We all know that it is possible to have a long walk in those halls.
Because we’d booked specifically as DVC owners at AKL to be on the 6th floor
We haven’t got what we booked
I’ve paid 38 points per night for Kilimanjaro club, SV is 27

It’s not free club level. We own at AKL, we booked Kilimanjaro club level 1 bedroom villa at 11 months. These rooms are on the 6th floor next to the lounge which is why we book.
We are now in a non club level room on the fifth floor with a five minute walk away

But you also said they offered you at least some discount per night for the rest of your stay " I asked if we could have the difference in savannah view and CL points also returned for the remaining nights but they have only offered the difference in value and savannah.". So you got a comped night, some reduced points for the rest of your stay, and you still have club access, leaving the only tangible difference being the length of the walk/floor number. Seems equitable.

I think they were fair in compensation. Unfortunately, things happen and they did what they could do to make it right. Could you continue to complain, yes. Do you want to be known as a problem guest (CM’s can add notes to your profile)? Your call. Remember, someone has to be in the lesser desirable rooms when DVC is 100%……

I think getting the one nights points back is fair. If you want the difference between SV and the old room refunded as well, I would expect you would have to give up access to the club for the rest of the trip.

This is a crummy situation, because the reality is that nothing they can offer you will make up for the inconvenience if you booked only to be close to the lounge. From a business standpoint, I think they’ve been fair with you, but I understand your feelings. When I went to pick up a rental car once, my 3 row SUV wasn’t there and they offered another level of vehicle with huge discounts, which I had to take because there was no other option, but I had booked a specific vehicle to make a trip easier with kids and luggage and no amount of discounts could fix it.

I'm not sure I'm understanding right. You were paying 38 points a night (say 5 nights). They gave you back one night (38 points) and the rest of the trip you are paying 27 a night?

I've never stay club, but yes, the idea of just going down 30-50 feet, vs different floor and a few hundred feet seems like a whole different feeling.

…I asked for a refund of the nights points which they did do.
… I asked if we could have the difference in savannah view and CL points also returned for the remaining nights but they have only offered the difference in value and savannah. …
I’m confused. I get that they refunded one night’s points - the night you had to move.
But what does “they have offered the difference in value and savannah” mean?
To me it sounds like they are offering the return of some amount of points for your remaining stay in addition to the one night they already returned? How is that different from what you want?
Where is your new 1 br. located? Is it classified as savanna view, standard view, or is it a value villa?
At AKL cash club rooms are located on the 5th floor, thus the walking to the club lounge is part of the club deal there for people who paid for cash rooms, so I’d guess the manager would not consider being on the 6th floor as a deal breaker club wise.

All of the Jambo DVC rooms are on the 6th and 5th floors, because the lower floors are better views of the savanna for cash guests.

I don't see what the problem is at all. They gave you everything you booked. Club level. Jambo. 1BR. 5th floor is even a slight upgrade.

A free night sounds more than generous for giving you exactly what you booked.

This is a negotiation in which you are trying to get the best deal you can. Unlike others, I do not look at it as the only issue being whether what they have already offered is fair or unfair. Fair is a broad concept and what they have offered appears fair to those negotiating with you and some others and unfair to you (and if the room you now have is actually a savanna view room I would probably agree with others that the deal offered is fair). In this situation, the issue is not fairness but whether you can actually get anything more. You may not yet know the final answer to that, except that you most likely suspect they are not going to give more in "points" compensation than they have already offered.

Thus, you need to decide whether you accept that or try for a little more. I would suggest that if you are considering trying for a little more it be for something other than more points compensation. Example: if there are only two of you perhaps see if they will also provide, at no charge, the Starlight Safari

These things happen and If it was me, I’d be happy with the initial offer of refunding the one night of points.

Granted, you are farther way, but you are still able to access the amenities. I might feel differently if they had overbooked, moved me, and didn’t give me club access…but for a leak? I’d be content.

I had 5th floor once when we booked CL. Didn‘t get any compensation. I did think our fifth floor had a better savannah view then anything on the 6th.

I have to say I'm very confused here so anyone please let me know if I'm reading this wrong. He received one full night of points. Got that. He asked for the difference between SV and Club for the remaining nights which is 11 points right now. Instead, they offered the difference between SV and Value which is 10 right now. So he's upset about the one extra point per night?
