Does anyone know anything about a culinary class or tour at AKL?
Thanks!!! :)

I was wondering the same thing...someone had mentioned it in another post. She had said there is a board up that has all the activity hours and this is one offered most days of the week....they bring you behind the scenes for a tour at Boma and Jiko and then let you sample some appetizers!

Like i said I have never done this tour so i am not sure...but i am also interested :goodvibes

oooh, that would be awesome... we're considering some "individual" activities this trip (manicure for dd, pirate cruise for ds, segway tour for dh, and this would be perfect for me... better maybe than a massage?!)

Is it a hands-on activity where you get to help prepare the appetizers, or do you just sample them?

We just returned today from AKL. I was trying to get to this tour, but never seemed to be there at the right time. It is Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs. at 4 PM. It's at 3:45 on the weekends. We did eat at Boma twice and Jiko once.Boma was fantastic and Jiko had the BEST filet mognon in a wine reduction that we've ever had(and we've eaten at some really great restaurants). It was supposed to be served with mac and cheese( kind of silly if you ask me) but we substituted mashed potatoes.

lol gigi1313..I know what you mean

The mac-n-cheese at Jiko is awesome, not the same as the rest of the "world" it's in a white cheese sauce. I'll have to try the filet next time, thanks.

You can do a search for a couple of reviews. I did this tour a couple of years ago and it was great. You get to sample food from both Jiko and Boma and you learn about the types of foods each restaurant serves. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely!! Last year, mac and cheese was one of the "hot" dishes at many world class restaurants. Jiko's is definitely not Kraft Cheese and Mac quality, for sure!! The combo of the filet sitting on top of the Mac & Cheese and the red wine reduction...oh, man!!! That's good stuff!! Next time you're there, have it the way the chef intended, I promise you won't be disappointed!

We did this tour in March. It was in Jiko. First a hostess explained the decor of the restaurant and gave a little overview. Then one of the chefs went over the menu (he basically explained all the items on the menu). Then we sampled some appetizers. The tour is free and open to anyone.

We ate dinner at Jiko for the first time that night and didn't like it (neither the food nor the staff). But one day we'll try it again to give it another shot. We've eaten at Boma before several times and loved it.
