I Know the 6th floor rooms are not recommended if you want a good view. However I would love to be close to the lounge. Has anyone had a 6th floor room close to the lounge. that they liked? It would have to sleep 5. In other words include the day bed as well. Thanks in Adavance. Lauren:wave:

We stayed at the AK Concierge on the 6th Floor last November. I don't remember the room number but we were about 6 doors down from the lounge. We have 3 kids and it was very convenient. It was fun to look down on the lobby, and we really enjoyed our thatch-covered balcony. However, the view wasn't the greatest. Our view overlooked the pool with the Savannah in the far background. We saw a few animals, but from a distance.
We were there for only 2 night before going on to the Poly, so I didn't mind the view, but if I had been there an entire week, I would definitely have wanted to see the Savannah up close!

Hope this helps.

Hi Lauren...

I had a peek inside a 6th floor room.

I noticed the family departing it with all their luggage and later I saw the housekeeper going into service it. I slipped over and asked to come in.

The room had 2 queen size beds and was identical to the one I was in on the 5th floor.

I went on the balcony and I have to be honest with you, the view was not great. Down below you is the roof from above the check-in section of the lobby... beyond that is a dirt sevice road and one of those big "people pens"

The savanna is long and narrow it is bordered by rooms on three sides. there were no animals on it as it was about 12:00noon -when they are in the barns.

There also a "hang over" thatchy kinda roof to your balcony which obstructs the view.

Personally I felt the 5th floor view was fabulous and was glad I did not have a 6th floor room.

On my next trip it did not matter so much to me so I requested a 6th floor room to try it out, there were none available so I was put back on the 5th floor.

The 6th floor rooms are incrediblly close to the lounge and I think it would be very convienent to stay there - but for a first trip I would recommend the 5th floor.

Next time I go I will try again for the 6th floor experience.

I just got back from a 5th floor room Arusha Rock savannah and the time before that I had a 6th floor room down from the lounge on the Sunset savannah. Honestly they both had thatched roofs and I thought being on the 5th floor on that savannah would be much better for viewing, not so.

I would probably request the 6th, same room that slept 5 and very convienent. We had the cutest trio of giraffes on sunset and that is really what I LOVE to see so either savannah is fine for me.

Lvstnk... the roofs are not thatched on the 5th floor - they have a roof but flat.. the 6th floor rooms have a thatch hang over with a peak? right?

(too many pina coladas??) :p :p

Edited to add.... I think the suites do... I was looking at my pics, there is a round thatched roof that runs down a bit over the connecting bedrooms.

Cass...

Our room was next to a suite (the big one) and we had a thatched roof so you may be right. So you might have to say in your request I want a room on the 5th without a thatched roof LOL!

Honestly I was happy with both, the only difference to me was the convienence.

We were actually upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite in August. It was on the 5th floor. I don't remember the room number? But, It had a huge round balcony with a thatched roof. The balcony could easily have held 10 people. We loved it and had a great view. However it was far from the lounge.
I guess I had better stick with my 5th floor. If my little guys didn't see the girraffes from the bed. I think I may be in danger of a mutiny! As long as I do not have to cross the sky bridge I will be happy! That was nerve racking for me. Oh my god ever try to chase 2 toddlers over that as one goes to the left and the other too the right!!!!!!! Not an experience I wish to repeat! Thanks all....

We had a room on the 6th floor (sorry, can't remember the number)... it was a savannah view, about 5 or 6 doors from the lounge....we had a queen, bunks and a day bed. The balcony was kind of small but the view was terriffic!! We did not have any obstruction....the balcony had a roof, but it did not obstruct our view in any way...the giraffes hung out there most of the afternoon and evening. There was a pond right there with all kinds of interesting water birds including a pair of the most enormous cranes I had ever seen and they were building a nest... it was a remarkable experience.

That sounds like the room we had, I thought the Arusha Rock savannah would be better but it really wasn't.

Just got back from a 15 day trip. We always request a 6th floor room because of the convenience to the lounge. Room 6401 has 1 queen a bunk and a daybed. It overlooks the pool and is the first room down from the lounge. Room 6402 has 2 queens but no daybed, however we got this room and they put a daybed in it for us along with a dresser since 6401 and 6402 are connecting rooms and have a door where the dresser usually goes. I do believe that they were going to take the daybed back out now that we left but we had several Disney CM's come to look at the room since they are trying to add more daybeds to the rooms. It seems that guests are requesting more daybed rooms than they have. We did see quite a few animals on the savannah beyond the pool. They are in the distance but this time we saw 9 animals at one time.

We met a few DIS'ers while we were on this trip. Spent a lot of time and did quite a few special events with my good friend Janet2k and her family. I will do a highlighted trip report after Thanksgiving since I am going to have my 3rd knee surgery and will be off work for 6 weeks.

Thanks for all the replies! You folks are the best!

I would like to know about the sky bridge as well. My daughter is very afraid of heights!

See the rope bridge that spans the lobby in this photo? it is on the 5th floor and connects Kudu to Zebra trail. It is a very sturdy bridge.. the sides are all ropes and wood beams, the floor is solid wood.

Wow, thanks for the sky bridge/rope bridge photo! What a great shot of the lobby!
