I really want to do the sunrise tour of AK, but it is only offered to concierge level guests. Since the 5th floor has both concierge and non-concierge services, would it be possible to stay non-concierge our first 2 nights and then upgrade to a concierge service for the last night so we could do the tour? We just wouldn't be able to afford 3 nights at concierge (and are pushing it staying at AKL to begin with) This would be an anniversary trip for us 3 nights 1.5 days for the parks (we have AP's) and the trip is our present to each other (something we have always wanted to do) Is this possible? Can we do this and change rooms (I'd be willing since it is just the two of us)? We are sort of focusing our trip on AK since we will be back in 3 more weeks for another family vacation (which is another reason we don't want to spend the money for 3 nights at concierge level)

TIA!

Did you want to stay in the same room, or are you willing to change rooms? I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed to make two reservations - one for the regular room, and one for one night in concierge - just be sure it is either a Monday night or a Friday night, as the Sunrise Safari is only on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Although the fifth floor rooms are both concierge and non - they are all deluxe rooms with the day bed. The rate on these is quite a bit higher than a regular room, even a savannah view room. I think it is doubtful that you would be able to stay in this at the regular rate! You will love AK, especially concierge level. If you are doing your concierge stay after your regular stay - be sure to check in early on the morning of your stay - even if your room isn't ready - you will get your key to access the lounge - they serve an awesome breakfast there, and this way you will be able to enjoy it. You won't want to waste the room on the concierge breakfast the morning of the Safari - the food at the Tusker House buffet is simply out of this world!! This was our number one pick for our entire family of five - and they never agree on the same restaurant!!

Good Luck, and Happy Anniversary! Be sure to have your anniversary noted on your reservation - they may do something special for you!

NO NO NO!!!!! The 5th floor concierge rooms are NOT all deluxe rooms with daybeds!!! We were in a concierge room last year, no daybed!!!

You can do what you suggested, as far as I know. Just book your regular res for the nights you want and your concierge res for the night before you want to go on the Safari. I have heard of people doing this.

I have also heard that AKL may change the rules and not allow people to do this anymore and open the Sunrise Safari to the people staying more than one or two nights-not sure what the minimum number of nights will be. I heard this on these boards but I don't know for sure if it will happen.

Do you plan on getting an AP or code rate for the stay?

What month are you going?

You should just use your best judgement-what if you book concierge for only one night and then they change the rules?

I'm not sure this is possible. I thought that AKL concierge had placed a two night minimum on concierge stays for people to participate in the Sunrise Safari, to prevent people from just staying the one night to get the privlidge. Also, if this was possible, you most likely would have to switch rooms. Also, all the rooms on the 5th floor, with a savannah view, are all deluxe savannah rooms. They are MUCH more than the regular savannah view rooms. The reagular savannah rooms (located on floors 2 - 4) usually run approx. $169 a night with an AP, whereas the deluxe savannah rooms on the 5th floor are going to $40-- $50 more per night, with concierge running about $250 per night.

As an FYI the Sunrise Safari is only offered on Tuesdays & Saturdays, or so they told my 1 month ago.

What did reservations say when you called? They should have all the info and rules...

I would say just book both reservations and request to be left in the same room for the non-concierge part.. .. but if they have to move you... so be it.

Note you are in a deluxe savanna room and have to pay that figure for the non-concierge nights unless you move to a regular savanna view, poolview or standard view room

When I stayed there last summer for 9 nights concierge, there were a couple of familys who changed to concierge just the night before for one night to participate on the sunrise safari. There was no minimum 2 night rule.

Let us know what happens,

Not true. I stay concierge on the 5th floor and always have a regular savannah room, not a deluxe which is larger only because it sleeps up to five.

All savannah and pool view rooms on the 5th floor are deluxe rooms. There are standard view rooms on the 5th floor. All deluxe rooms do not sleep 5, some sleep only 4.
