AKL bus transportation to parks and DTD

Hi,
My husband and I are debating on if we should rent a car next week or not. We have never been a big fan of Disney bus transportation. However, we have never gone with out kids.
Since we are staying at AKL, how long of a bus ride is it to the parks? how does it work? ( do we have to change buses)
How late do they go from Boardwalk and Pleasure Island??

We stayed at AKL two weeks ago and although we had our car, we also used the bus transportation. We did not find it a long wait at all for a bus from AKL to DTD or to MGM. Maybe 5 minutes or so. The AKL bus stop is right outside their lobby, in the shade. Since AKL has its' own busses, and does not share with any other resorts, travel to the parks seems faster and we always got a seat. What we found to be a longer wait was at DTD waiting for an AKL bus to go back. I think we waited 20 - 25 minutes for this. The last bus leaves DTD pretty late -- around 1:30 - 2:00am. We have not stayed there that late, but this is what we have heard.

As far as going to the Boardwalk, we do not recommend taking the bus, unless you plan a lot of travel time in. There is no direct bus from AKL to the Boardwalk. You must take the bus to DTD or to any park and transfer to a Boardwalk bus. We went to the Boardwalk twice (we love that area) and we drove both times. I think by car it took all of 5 minutes. Of course you can do it by bus, but I think waiting in the heat of Florida summer for a bus is not very relaxing.

We didn't rent a car when we went and our longest bus wait at AKL was 10 minutes. The only time we didn't get a seat on the bus was when heading back from MK on a Saturday night. The bus ride to MK was the longest and took about 15 minutes. We didn't go to the Boardwalk, but it looked like getting to and from there by bus would have been rough. We also had a bit of a wait on the bus to go back to AKL from DTD.
