Went to AKL and had a great time. Stayed in room 5527, a deluxe savannah that comfortably housed our 5 people (3 yr old son, 5 yr old daughter, 15 yr old cousin, my wife, and me). The view was awesome. We were on Zebra Trail, and saw zebra, elands, wildebeasts, giraffe, ankole cattle, and many birds.

My friends, with same number in group, stayed in room 5346, also a deluxe savannah. Their view was awful. There was a wire fence and what looked to be a loading area right in their view.

Wow, that sounds awful. Did they ask to be moved?
I would think if you paid for a deluxe savanna view, it would be expected not to have a loading dock and wire fence....but perhaps I am wrong? (we have not stayed there yet, but plan to next trip).

Last summer at AKl we noticed some less than desirable views, like described in the above post. I did not think that those rooms could be considered a savannah view!

I noticed the same thing; I stayed on Zebra Trail, not far off the lobby and had a wonderful view of the savannah in the center of ALK. I saw the other 2 savannah's and the seemed significantly smaller (though I was told all 3 were the same size) and you could see a lot of fencing which made it seem more like a "zoo". I'm going back in the fall and would be disappointed in my savannah view if it wasn't the center savannah (Arusha??). Are there any fans out there of the other savannah's who give some details about you may like or dislike a particular savannah.

When we went last May we had paid for a savannah room and got one without much of a view. We had a giant tree right in front of our window. My DH and I could see over it if we stood on our tiptoes. There was no way my kids could see anything. My DH went to the lobby and nicely explained the situation. We were upgraded to a Deluxe Savannah since there were no Savannah rooms left.

When we stayed here two years ago, I had requested the second floor because others here had said you were so close the the animals on this floor. I was so disapointed when our cm took us to our room and I looked out to see this awful fenced-in area. She asked if I was happy with my view and I said, "not really". So she immediately called down and they changed us to the fourth floor with a beautiful view. Any time you have a problem like this at Disney, just let them know. They are usually very accommadating.::yes::

Glad you had a great view though!:D

We have stayed on some of the other savannahs. This year we were on Zebra Trail. The opposite side of the hall as Arusha rock rooms. We had a great view. Many more animals and fewer trees. :D The bell services man who brought our luggage up said they turn the voltage up on the fences on Arusha rock savannah because people try to feed the animals and they don't want them coming in too close.

If you don't mind me asking, which savannah did your room face? I am having trouble understanding whether the odd or even numbered rooms face the Arusha Savanna.

Thanks so much.

Your post has confused me a bit - which rooms at AKL have windows? I thought they all had sliding glass doors with a balcony?

Tina26, we've never had a cm walk us to our room - how'd you get one?

Schmeck,

I meant to say the bell hop lady who brought our luggage up to our room for us. She stayed with us in our room for a few minutes and explained the lay out of the hotel, etc, etc. She was really great, and very friendly. We had no problem getting them to switch us to a new room. I thought the hotel employees were called cm's too..........am I wrong about that??

Dh and I accidentally tipped her $20 bucks for bringing our luggage up on the cart (thought it was a $10,which is what we usually tip). After she left though, dh and I both agreed that she deserved a little extra for treating us so nicely.::yes:: We saw her several times throughout our stay and she always said a friendly hello.

When we stayed in 2001, we were on Zebra trail, but not Arusha savannah. As you walked away from the lobby, we were on an offshoot hallway on the right. We faced the back of the savannah and had a view of where the workers and animals entered and left the savannahs. We saw LOTS of animals. The animals would all congregate by the fence when they knew it was nearing time for them to leave the savannah! We also had one of the holding pens in front of us, but we didn't feel that it hindered our view at all. We were on the second floor. We saw plenty of animals and loved it!! I also liked being on the less traveled hallway because there was a LOT less hall traffic noise!!:teeth:

My husband and I stayed 10 nights at AKL at the end of May. We reserved a pool view and requested a nonsmoking room and had no view at all. The front desk manager stated that there were only two smoking pool view rooms available when I called the front desk to complain, so we did not move since a nonsmoking room was not an option for us. I was very disappointed with the room and the way my disappointment with the room was handled, I will not stay at AKL again.
