Gillian - OMG! ROFL! Yes it probably was good that they only had 52 watt bulbs at that point! The 60 watts would have put me over the top!
Seriously, the Holiday Inn at Cocoa Beach was HORRENDOUS!!!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
The childrens pool was incredible. More like a water park! But they advertised as newly renovated and it was NOT! Room was dirty, smelly, sheets didn't cover the mattress... Almost had a relapse of the stomach thing when I saw that room! And then when I went to check out they charged me for 2 movies. It is a very long story, but we didn't watch any movies. I nicely told the front desk this and they said no, I did. The computer recorded it. I again nicely explained how it wasn't possible and there must be something wrong with the computer. He said "No, the computer can not make mistakes." Wow, those must be some awesome computers they've got! Wish we had them here at work too! Would make my job sooooo much simpler! But I would never recommend that particular HI to anyone!

I love the AKL and can't wait until Friday when we will be returning! Since this is a "low budget" trip for us, we did not pay for a Savanah view room, but if they want to upgrade us - even to a view of the "people pen" I won't complain. As far as the lighting situation goes, I guess we did not have a problem. Both of my kids did their homework at night in the room without any problems. DD uses a lighted make-up mirror at home, but she never complained about the lighting. I will try to remember to check out the wattage of the light bulbs in our room to see if they really are 52 watts, but whatever they are, I think the place is GREAT:D :D :D

Wow! I just came from the funeral of a thirty four year old man today. Thank you for this post. It helps me keep some really stupid things in perspective, not that I would let a light bulb ruin my vacation. I will remember this post every time I am on vacation and something goes "not according to plan".

The light bulb that ruined the vacation.........................Ha!..........thank you.

I just want to remind everyone to please be nice when posting...Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, which may not always agree with yours...:)

Thank you!! :)

Luvdzny-

I just want to let you know how incredibly jealous I am of you right now getting to go to AKL on Friday while I sit at my desk at work!!!! I hope you have as amazing of a time as I did when I was there, it is truly the best in my opinion:)

Wow, talk about jumping all over somebody for stating their opinions!!! We stayed at AKL and thought the rooms were beautiful and did not find them dark at all. I paid for a Savannah view and got a Savannah view but we also got a view of the big pen and although we were on Zebra trail we saw very few animals and we were on our balcony at all times of the day and night, we were disappointed also. We thought the resort was beautiful but found it to be very remote and far away from everything. We did not let this ruin our trip in anyway but we did not feel as though AKL was worth the almost $200.00 per night we paid and are not in any rush to go back. I do not understand why people have to jump all over someone just because they do not like a resort, restaurant etc that someone else might love. That is why they make vanilla and chocolate!

Sounds like the OP had Evan as a CM at check in ...twice we have ended up with this gentleman and twice they have tried to put us in the Savannah rooms over looking the people pen...YUCK!!! And we were paying for a savannah room...If the resort was full I'd take it but boy is it pushing it for a savannah view:rolleyes:

The first visit I got all the way to the room and all I had to do was call the front desk and they sent the bellman to a different room with our luggage...So if you didn't call to ask about changing the rooms when your unhappy then, I don't really think you can complain about your room....if you had asked for a change and they had refused that's a different story..

The lighting thing sort had me chuckling also....ruining a vacation over the lack of wattage in a replacement bulb...seems sort of silly when one reads it....but obviously it was very important to you. I found that it did make it easier to see the animals at night with the low lighting in the room...and I never noticed it being really dim during the day time hours.

It gets even more funny when you find out this guy is 16 years old. Man if he gets this worked up over a lightbulb...then he is really headed for a hard life.

We asked for a different room and were told that is all they had available.

Europa, thanks. That explains it. I had never heard of such a thing before when reading this post. I'm glad you posted.

Like I said....if they were full then it would be a bit of a stretch...When did you go DeeP....I didn't think that AKL has been to capacity yet???Then maybe all the savannah views were gone. If I hadn't been switched those 2 times they tried to give me the people pen savannah view...I definately would have been disappointed....maybe even tried for a different view..pool maybe..just about anything is better then that view...

EUROPA....The fact that this kid is 16 and gets upset over such things make me think he has a lot of dissapointments to come in his life.....I also searched his posts to verify your statement and he does say he is 16 in earlier posts...

Did you even consider that I am not the one who was troubled with it, but my mother? She likes to read a lot, so the bulb was a problem, and therefore would be irritated and would ruin the vacation. I have been to Disney 40 some odd times, and have bokked all ressies myself when just me and my older sister go, so my age should have nothing to do with it. You people do not agree, that is fine, but that you find it funny that my vacation could have been ruined is offensive and I now perceive many of you as jerks.

There are a lot of mature teens here & a lot immature adults. Some of the most valuable contributors to the Resorts boards are in high school (or were). Most of us here don't pay attention to age.

Could anyone please post the room numbers for the people pen view rooms? I hope to avoid getting one! TIA :)

Gilian, I had room 2271 and it was at the end of the wing with the pen, give me two secs and I will mark on the resort map where the pen is. http://geocities.com/ajblbv/aklpen.jpg

Copy paste that, geocities won't let me link to it. The black area is where the one pen was, I would assume there are more though for other areas.

I hope I am recalling this room number correctly... 2251. We were the first room next to the elevator on the second floor. We had a view of a big empty pen (I thought it was for the animals and their baths :D ). It was adjacent to the barns. I originally had a poolview room reserved, but it wasn't ready when we checked in (early). They told me they had another room, a Savannah view, and did I want it? We took the room, and although it wasn't a sweeping Savannah view room, we did see several birds, giraffes and the big horns from our room. They weren't smack dab in front of our face, more to the side. Still, I wanted to check in early, I agreed to change rooms, and I was perfectly satisfied with distant view of the animals and we did see plenty of action.

I do think that people are entitled in the opinions and there have been posts that some find this resort "too dark" for their tastes. I was wondering after reading this thread if I'd accidently stumbled on a Swan/Dolphin post from the response to this poor kid ;) Folks, give the 16 year old a break.

Personally, I love AKL, and the decor, but that is my personal taste. The only thing I didn't care for at AKL were cranky people in the elevators (and I'm not talking about the CMs). I hope they are not there next time we visit, because I just might have to smile at them.

Signed,

Old enough to be the poor kid's mother

Seems the story is changing a little bit. First you because you spend 30% of you time in the room, now it's your mom that was upset. Well lets not quibble over that part of the story.

OK a little life lesson for you...It does not matter how many times you've been to Disney. That part of the story is not relevant. Getting upset over a light bulb and letting is ruin your vacation is well...immature. I'm sorry but that is just the way it is. If you read the post from others on this thread you will see the proper way to handle the situation. Which is not to let it ruin you vacation then come on the boards and bash the AKL. It's just not going to fly around here. I read more than I post on this board, but when I see something outrageous I must post. What is even more puzzling to me is why you mom did not know how to handle the situation. In fact it’s down right shocking. People that have been around the boards for a while see this pattern come and go. Usually most of the people who are upset really do have a reason to be. I'm sorry but you won't find many people that sympathize with you about a light bulb. Especially in this day and age when there are some many more important things to worry about.

Once again the proper way to handle the situation is to call back down and tell them of their mistake. If you must ask to speak to the manager. I would do that if they still were unable to complete the task. Most places at Disney will bend over backwards for you if they make a mistake. Which is what this was, that's it a simple mistake.

Now really sit down and think hard about, don't you think your overreacting to the situation?

Don't you think in this case it is relevant, especially they way he handled the situation or didn't handle it in this case? It sheds a little light on situation.

The 30% is the truth, and my mother also likes to read a lot. I think I have handled the situation fine, and I made the mistake of expecting fantastic service from Disney, I was wrong. As to why you seek to be a jerk is beyond me. I am not gonna respond any more to your posts on this topic though.
