Animal Kingdom Lodge rooms are 344 square feet.

Must be that new math they've been talking about.

If those numbers are correct, even for an AKL standard room, then the bathroom must use just about the whole extra third of a room, and the porch, so I do not consider it bigger.

I have stayed at just about all levels of resorts. Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Boardwalk, Coronado, Wilderness Lodge, ASMu and ASSp, and when I stayed at the AKL I expected service in line with what I had received at all of those resorts. However, I found a small room overlooking a people pen, and housekeeping does not understand what a high wattage bulb is. This is not what I expect from a Disney 'deluxe' hotel.

I do not want to flame anyone, but I have high expectations from Disney, I am an Annual Passholder and go multiple times per year, and I think I have every right to be upset after what had happened.

I would certainly agree that you are entitled to be upset with poor service. However, a low-wattage bulb is hardly what I'd consider poor service. Perhaps there was some disconnect between the person you requested the new bulb of, and the person who actually delivered it. In any case, a simple request (yes, you'd be asking a second time) could easily have remedied the problem. As far as the view is concerned, sounds like you could have switched rooms. I'm afraid that you're not getting much sympathy here. It's unfortunate that these two incidents at your hotel cast such a cloud over your trip. I truly hope that you find your next vacation to be more magical.

Erin :)

Nope, no sympathy here, either.:( It is just too easy to either pick up a phone or go to the front desk and have things changed to your liking. Of course, now you know, and can stay at the Poly, GF, or any of the those others that you mentioned.

They are correct, The AKL deluxe room is about 40 square feet larger than the standard AKL room. The porch is not included. Remember that the beds at the AKL are queens v. doubles at the AS Resorts. There is also a double vanity which takes up more space in the dressing area.

So yes, it's possible that "unused space" is about the same, but it is a lie to say that the rooms are the same size. They are not.

We were also disappointed in AKL, although we seem to be a minority. For us, it was much too small, dark, and more like a Holiday Inn than a Disney deluxe resort. The sheets were scratchy and cheap. The savannah view we had actually overlooked the hot tub. We requested a new room from a cast member that was absolutely condescening and rude. The animals were great as was the food but overall we felt like we would have been much happier at one of the moderates. However, many people love it there. That is what makes Disney great, there is something for everyone.

LOL!!!

52 Watt lightbulb.....haha Your killing me. Are you sure that you weren't reading the Lummans/watts figure from the bulb? I'm pretty sure they don't make a 52 watt lightbulb.

Europa, I was wondering about that also. Maybe it was a 25 watt light bulb.. that would be rather dim. But wattages are usally 25, 50, 60, 75 and 100. Maybe the 52 watt bulb was created with AKL in mind?;)

You know EUROPA, I was thinking the same thing. A 52 watt bulb is news to me too!;)

I agree, not everyone likes every theme. I can't stand the AS Resorts, although many love them. My porblem with the OP was taht he talked about getting an upgrade and then complained about it. If he was that unhappy with the upgraded room, he should have asked for the original view, the one he paid for, OF THE PARKING LOT!!!

Also his comment about the room being the size of a value resort room was completely NOT TRUE.

I guess I take issue with someone who gets an upgrade and thn complains about it. if he was that unhappy he should have requested to be moved to the room he was paying for. I mean, give me a break. But some people you just can't make happy no matter what.

Anne

They do make 52 watt light bulbs. They are often used as a money saving alternative to 60 watt bulbs.

We have a lot of older fixtures in our home that can only take 60 watt bulbs. It's fine for watching TV or talking but it's not enough for reading or anything else, really.

Anne, I completely agree... I am glad they finally got moved to the Poly, and hope that the stay there, with the proper wattage bulbs, lack of holding pen scenery and larger rooms salvaged the vacation.

I agree, you get what you pay for, and with a complimentary upgrade, there is no room for complaint.

We asked to not take the upgrade, but according to the CM at checkin the standard view was full, we did not have a choice. Although we did not ask to be moved to another Savannah room.

You tried to refuse the free upgrade before even seeing the savannah view room? Why would you do that?

crs7568 - Did you get the new room as requested? Remeber, you can't judge the entire resort by that one CM. I think everyone has run in to a rude CM at any of the resorts and/or parks. We were concerned before going about what everyone said about the rooms being dark, but we personally just didn't feel that way. In fact, we were so mesmerized by the savannah, that we left the curtains open all night. Just had the sheer pulled across the door. It was wonderful to wake up and look out to see "who" was there! I had no complaints about the sheets. In fact, spent a good part of one day in bed with the flu-sheets felt like heaven at that point! And as far as it being on par with a Holiday Inn - NOT even CLOSE!!!!!! We left AKL after 7 nights and went to Cocoa Beach for 3 nights to relax at the beach. OMG! The Holiday Inn was just AWFUL! Wanted to cry after seeing the room. We made it thru, but I can tell you AKL is worlds away from Holiday Inn!

I can understand you might have been happier at a moderate. As you say, everyone has different desires and for the money, you didn't like AKL. But you can't blast the resort because of one rude CM. Most there go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. It is not fair to those CMs to not give them their due.

Open the curtains, turn on all the lights --- and quit complaining

Sorry just never seen one. Even checked a couple of major light-buld supplier catalogs that we have at the office. From that quick wit of yours I can see now why a 52 watt buld would ruin your vacation.

WL rooms are also dimly lit.....but I don't go to WDW to read!;)
I feel the low wattage adds to the "feel'of each resort, and as someone mentioned earlier, makes it easier to see the animals outside, at AKL.

And I ,also, never heard of a 52 watt bulb...........however,just maybe the Housekeeper thought a bulb had burned out, just a misunderstanding?

sharoncity, I've heard lots of bad things about that particular Holiday Inn! I'm glad you enjoyed the AKL, even while sick. I bet you were glad the lights were dim!
