Akershus raises prices again

I never realized the whole month of June is a holiday. :sad2:
Well, yes - it has been since 2008. WHAT holiday, you ask? I don't know - has anyone gotten a straight answer out of Disney?

It's a peak period - holiday pricing at the buffets at Walt Disney World starts just before Memorial Day and runs through something July 6. I think the interim holiday is "Juniday"?

for many people, dining out is more than just food, it is a "package". I can get a great steak at the local diner. Do I want to sit at the local diner on a special occasion?
No, I get that. The decor, the ambience. I'm just genuinely confused how the layout, in part, makes the price increase ridiculous.

Holiday season runs through July 11th - we arrive on the 12th. :thumbsup2

I am worried about next year though as our son's birthday is July 4th, so we will be subject to this stupid surcharge, which my hubby and I believe have been implemented in order to add false value to the DP. We can't really cut out all character meals, so we are only going to 1 or 2 of them. We are already going to be hit with a blackout date for our TIW card on his birthday, so it will be Rainforest or T-Rex that day.

Can't stand these dumb surcharges.:crazy2: We always do a split DVC stay, so we might have to do the DxDP for a few days in order to avoid these surcharges. Grrr...

RE: the layout. This restaurant is beyond cramped. Have you ever sat at the tables under the interior alcove, near the buffet tables? They are the worst - have been seated there several times. Even though we make ADRs 6 months in advance, there are never anymore tables to move to, as they seat in a group format, so we've been told that we couldn't really move. Anyway, it is so crowded, that characters have to crowd down near your table (sometimes on their knees in a kneeling position). It is very awkward and makes for a most unenjoyable character interaction. Last time, the kid behind us (chairs are literally on top of each other) bounced up and knocked into our server who spilled stuff on our table as he hit her tray. I commented to her that tables need to go, she said she agreed, but they needed those tables as it was a very busy place. I understand that, but when it takes away from the character experience - which is why many people go to Akershus as the food is horrible - then it's not a good idea to have them there. The atmosphere in a restaurant is very important to us, KWIM? If the food was good, then maybe we could work it out, but when the food is terrible, then there is no reason to continue to go there any longer. With a raise in prices to a ridiculous level, a bad atmosphere/layout in restaurant and subpar service, these are all enough reasons for us to cross this off of our list.

Just got back a few days ago and the food was great along with the character interaction. We went for the breakfast and had a blast! Enjoy yourself!

With these price increases, I just wonder how much the DDP will go up next year. I'm sure Disney already knows and they need to raise the prices of these meals to justify it.

To my surprise it was DH who says "whatever" lets still go. :confused3 Guess he wants to see the pretty princesses. :rotfl2: seriously, DD14 didn't care one way or another. Maybe I will keep the ADR and just pay it.

No, I believe those prices are new. We ate here in May, right after the photo package, and prices were not this high, especially when adding in the holiday surcharge. I will go and double check my receipts, as maybe I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure not as I would not have eaten here had the prices been this high. Hmmm...

We paid the "new" prices the 2nd week of Dec. 2008- we were not on the meal plan. We did breakfast & the holiday pricing hadn't started yet.

I was planning on taking my daughters to this for breakfast but if there is only a $5-$6 difference between breakfast and dinner, we'll probably make it a dinner instead. Seems like a better value that way.

Anyone done both breakfast and dinner here? How are the dinners? Are they family style also like the breakfast?

TIA

We went November 29th (2 days after Thanksgiving, holiday pricing). We paid $22.99 for the kids and $34.99 for the adults for dinner. It was my DH's favorite meal, he had the salmon. I didn't care for my meal (pasta), but love the salad bar and dessert and left very satisfied. We were not cramped at all, we were in the main room you walk into right of the photos area. My kids wanted to go to see Ariel with her lesgs, so we went for that. We figured if we liked the meal, great, if not, no big deal, we were going for the experience. We were leasently surprised. We, however, always use the DDP. I would never pay $23 plus tip for a hot dog (what my DD decided she was in the mood for that night:sad2: ) anywhere else, but it was worth it for the smile on her face when she saw Ariel. I'd like to experience breakfast here, but with Ariel not being there we won't as we never miss CRT for breakfast and see all the same characters there. Now that it is DH's favorite place, I am sure we will be back.

I would consider Dec. 2008 new as that was only several weeks ago. We went in May 2008, and we did not pay these prices (check post above).

You are lucky about holiday pricing as well, as that adds another significant chunk to the bill.

Old vs. new prices:

Adult dinner $28.99 vs. $35.99
Child dinner $13.99 vs. $19.99

We will probably still go, but man...what a bummer! Once you add in tax & 20% tip, that is an increase of $32.89 for a family of 4. Oh well - priceless, right?!?!

Like someone said before, this is a pretty good example of the value of the dining plan. Definitely making me rethink our choice to not do the dining plan.

Wait now I am confused. Dis has the breakfast for $22.99 but Allears has it for $28.99 which one is it? :confused3

On this post they say dinner is $28.99

I called yesterday and was surprised that I needed a cc to make my reservation. I hadn't realized that a cc was required for this ADR too. BTW -- breakfast is $28 for adults (lunch $30 -- dinner $35). We were going to go on Sunday May 10th but then realized it's Mother's Day and since we use DDE/TIW this would be a blackout day of discounts, so will eat CS that day.
