I've heard somewhere that the Resaurant Akerhus in Norway has changed their dining option and gotten rid of all/part (??) of the buffet and you now have to order (maybe just hot items) individually from a menu. I hope this is not true. I did not want to try this place when my DH 1st suggested it..but it is now one of our favorites. Anyone recently been there??? Thanks.

Yes, it has changed.

We ate there in May for the first time. We each ordered a hot item from the menu, and then went up to the buffet for the cold items.

Unfortuneately, there was not a "sampler" platter on the hot menu so you could try a variety.

Aww, that's disappointing! This became my favorite buffett style restaraunt at Disney last year! I was really looking forward to taking my parents there to "sample" in September :(

I was a bit disappointed when i was there in May. The cold buffet was the same with all the good stuff but the hot buffet was gone. I enjoyed tasteing little portions of the stuff but in generlas was never excited about most of the stuff on the hot buffet. You know order from the hot menue. You can still eat all you want and they tell you that if you don't like it you don't have to eat it. The items on the hot menue seemed to be different than what had been on the hot buffet. I ordered two items and bother were much fresher and presented in a very nice manner and both were very good. One item was just the right portion and the other was a fairly large portion that could have been split bewteen two-4 people if you where just atasteing things.
The con is that you can't go pick a little of this or that. The pro is that the food was much more appealing in its presentation, flavor and freshness. The cold buffet was as good as ever.
I still recommend Akershus. :)

The CM I spoke to made the point of telling me that it is only a buffet now. I assume that means you don't order off a menu at all? I'm confused about ordering off a "hot" menu...maybe it hasn't changed and it's just me that doesn't understand (wouldn't be the first time...or the last! Ha-ha.)

We were there last week and the cold buffet was similar to what it has been in the past and then we were given a menu of the hot items and were told to order as many as we would like. The waiter told us that the change was made in order to give the customer the best quality hot food possible. It was very good and our server was really on the ball and approached us as soon as we appeared to be finished with one "hot dish" and ask if we'd like to try something different or more of what we had just finished. I was still very pleased with our meal and we'll likely eat there again on future trips.

Thanks for the info ~ We are eating here in October!!!!

We ate there in June - I think it was lunch...anyway, the food is comparable, but the hot buffet area has been competely closed off by walls. You get your cold food, bread, and soups as you always did. You order portions of the hot foods from a menu, but it is still "buffet" priced, and all you can eat. It is just that the hot items come fresh out of the kitchen. The food is still excellent, and I think a new menu item when we were there was a mushroom pasta - it was delicious. (At least I don't remember it being on the buffet). Our server said that, as always, the hot item selections will change seasonally. Still one of our favorite EPCOT restauranrs.

We (6 adults) ate there for the first time this June. It was absolutely our favorite place that we ate on our entire trip! It was set up, as stated, a cold buffet plus hot items to order off the menu. This was one fixed price (about $15 for lunch & $18 for dinner). Drinks were extra and we were so full we didn't order dessert, also extra. We all shared each others hot item plus we each ordered 2-3 entrees (one at a time) so created our own "sampler" plates. Our waitress was very attentive and answered lots of questions ref food and general questions about Norway. We were arrived late for lunch so the cold buffet soon switched to the dinner items which we had access to. However, we could not order hot items off the dinner menu, lunch menu only. Since the hot items were brought to the table to order they were very hot, fresh, and well prepared...no sitting under a hot light or steamer tray like most buffets. This was not only the best food that we ate but the best food bargain. You cannot imagine how much we ate:eek: I had intended on using Connections vouchers but it was cheaper to just pay cash and get a refund for the vouchers. We ABSOLUTELY will be eating at Akershus again:Pinkbounc
