AK Newbie Swap PROGRESS THREAD--ALL HERE!! See mailing thread

Leaving to go over the pond for a week on Saturday. I hope to have this halfway done by then, but I will be done on time. The paper is in the house, the design is done. This is possibly my last chance to do my Oct 1 check-in.

tiggermei--have a safe and fun trip!!

Hi momx3boys and AWM!! :)

I'm going to change our next check-in to October 4--that's next Thursday. (How is it possible that October begins NEXT WEEK???) The 4th is one week to the mail-by date. Thanks, everyone for being so good about checking in!

I finished up my journal boxes this afternoon. This swap will be postal tomorrow!

And I am now officially swap-free! I haven't been able to say that for a looooong time! Let's see how long that lasts. I have so many of my own projects that I want to work on - I'm going to try to be a good girl for the next month or so.

Congratulations on being done, NEE! I'm hoping to work this weekend on this one and the Surprise Swap. I'd like to be swap-free by next week---I love swaps, but I am SO behind in my own stuff!

I can't wait to see yours, NEE!

I am hoping to finish this one up over the weekend.....if I can ever get out of this bed!

Hope you are feeling better SIOH.

SIOH & Susie hope you guys are feeling better. I have been so sick all week. I just can not shake this thing. I am hoping to do mine today or tomorrow and get them in the mail on monday. I did have a quick ? for you guys. I originally said I would do a mini file folder, but it's kinda small. would anyone mind if i did the sizzix file folder #2? its a little over 5 1/2 by 4 1/2 but its not a folder. i don't know why they call it that. it's more of a divider of sorts.....i just want to make sure it's ok before i do it. i will do the mini one if that's what you want. this is my 1st swap of stuff so what's the etiquette for switching at the last minute????
thanks guys!

If you fold your paper in half and put the folded edge just inside the bottom of the folder cut, you can make a real file folder from it. That is what I did for my large folder/book in a few of my swaps. I cut it normal for the insert.

And changing at the last minute, totally acceptable as long the elements you are picking are really cool! :rotfl2:
Nah, we all seem to change our minds in one swap or another. I'll be changing mine too. I've decided I don't want to do the topper. I got a good look at the Dinosaur sign, and I'm just not up to trying to duplicate it. Not sure what I'm replacing it with, but I better figure out soon. ;)

ok so cut it out and then fold it just under the tab???? then do i have to make one for the insert???? sorry to sound dumb. i just dont like that mini one. it's just so small.

Nope, fold the paper and then die cut. Just take your 8-1/2 x 11 sheet, fold it in half. Put the folded edge just inside the bottom edge of the die cutter. It'll be just a tad shorter than if you cut a single piece. It'll still have the two tabs, but you can cut off the front one or just leave it. I left it. Then when you cut the single sheet, flip it over so the tab is showing on the other side of the folded folder. There is still a space in the middle, but I haven't figured out how to fix that without a lot of cutting and pasting.

Party of 3--I change my mind all the time with what I'm going to make! No worries! Your file folders sound cool! Thanks, AWM, for helping!! I've never done file folders before--I would've had no idea what to do! :)

thanks SIOH for letting me change my mind!

i'm still trying to figure out my photo mats too!

can i post a pic so you guys can tell me if it's ok or not???? or does that ruin the surprise??? but what if it's yucky, then you can tell me and i can re-do it so it's nice. omg. i am so flippin' stressing out over this! i did the folder and put a card inside it to journal on and i think it looks nice, but what if my people in my group think it's yucky???? i don't want anyone to be disappointed. ooohhh boy......

If you want to post a pic, by all means do it! I know it will look wonderful! This one doesn't have to be a surprise, and getting feedback always helps!! Don't stress over this!! I know they are great! :)

i have another question for you guys.....

if i wanted to do tags and they have to be double matted and i'm doing them on my cricut what size do i do? i did them at 4 and then 4 1/2 but they look a little funny. then i did them at 3 1/2 and 4 and they look funny too. i did the round top ones and the pointed top ones. what sizes do you guys do????

and do you do them on your bug???

I stress out ALL the time about these swaps.
Since this isn't the Surprise Swap, I would say it is okay to post a pic.

What I did was use a nice card stock for the folder itself. Then on in inside I put two mats of printed paper or textured cardstock would work. I made the front pretty (I had really cool cloth labels that I used). I also did make a single sheet die cut for an insert. This also just got the mats adhered to front and back. It doesn't sound like much, but if you use good paper, it looks great! It ends up being a mini folder book.

For my tags, I used the George cart. Set at 4 inches is plenty big enough. THEN using a different paper (textured or patterned) I cut the same size in Sihouette feature. You can then use either the outside border and adhere it to your first tag, or use the inside piece and adhere it to your tag. Voila! Double matted. (when I make double sided tags, I do both on the same tag, just different sides) Or you can just cut the Shadow feature, glue it behind your first tag and it is double matted.

Checking in. Still having a creative block. I will be working on this during the week.
