They used to be 49.00 to upgrade from atlanta to MCO. But on this trip the upgrade cost was 69.00 from atlanta to MCO so I decided to skip it and just kept my coach seat.
The upgrade would mean for me one free checked baggage. And nicer snacks. And more legroom.
I used to upgrade when I checked in at the 24 hour mark if there were any seats available.
For our December 23rd flight (our sole AirTran experience), we checked in right at the 24 hour mark and upgraded to business class. It cost us $114 for 3 people (I just checked my credit card statement to be sure) plus the $60 credit we had in our AirTran account due to a drop in flight prices after booking. So a total of $174 or $58 pp.
Oh, and like the PP said, we got more leg room, 2 x 2 seating (vs. 3 x 3 in the regular area), a free checked bag per person, and priority boarding and de-planing.
If the food was upgraded, I wouldn't know ... we had never flown with AirTran prior to this (or since), so we have nothing to compare that to.
