O We are a family of 5 and I really don't want to spend the money on buying seats. As long as we are together in a set of 2 and 3 I will be fine!
And as far as children not sitting with their parent, I'm sure there are people out there who wouldn't move for a family, but I would think that MOST people would be kind enough to move for a parent and their child. .... Maybe that is just my midwest mentallity....
I think it's interesting that most people on disboards assume that parents chose not to pay for the assigned seats. That the parents have some great entitlement attitude going and that they expect something for nothing. .......
To the PP who mentioned that they had a Midwest thought process: I DO, TOO. I'M THANKFUL FOR IT! I would move (unless it separates DD and myself) to let a mother or father sit with their young child.
I quoted and bolded quotes from a poster in this thread. She feels it's important for her family to sit together, doesn't want to pay for assigned seats and thinks passengers should move so her family can sit together.
This sure sounds like entitlement mentality to me. It sounds like someone who wants something for nothing and expects others to inconvenience themselves so she can get something without paying for it. It's insulting to a section of the country to call this Midwest thought process.
I don't care how many seats show as being available. At 24 hours passengers will want to sit next to a family member. Some people will get the seats they want and some won't. The minute you don't pay for an assigned seat you're saying you don't care where you sit or who you sit next to.
These threads always have some people who think others should move so they can sit next to their family but not pay. These threads always seem to have a poster who sites a law that only exists in Fantasyland.
You want practical advice. Try to make a reservation for 9 passengers. If there are less the 9 seats available for sale (at any price) the flight will be full and many passengers who check in at T-24 will be split. 9 seats are available at low fares? There are probably more then 9 seats available for sale. You might get lucky at T-24.
