Airtran has a summer sale starting today. I saw this pop up on TravelZoo. Unfortunately, we are north of Albany, and prefer to fly out of Albany if at all possible. Southwest is the discount carrier in Albany, and last fall we flew for $49. Airtran out of White Plains has a $69 fare for Wednesdays in August.

I'm torn, because this is a great rate, but we'll have to drive 3.5 hours to get to White Plains, and Southwest could pop up a $49 ding fare in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure what my tolerance is for waiting this time around.

UGH!!! Still 250 from Boston :( I cannot believe the prices for October, it's killing me :(

It's a great rate, but parking is minimal and VERY expensive in White Plains. I'd wait for Southwest (I'm in Poughkeepsie, about halfway between the two, so I can go either one. In fact, I'm going on AirTran for the $69 rate in August, but my daughter is driving us down and picking us up so we don't need parking.). Good luck.

My wife's sister lives in the Harrison/Rye area, so we could leave our car at their house and get a shuttle. With that option available, I'm really leaning toward going with Airtran. Ideally, I'd prefer to go with Southwest, but I'm one of those types who likes to get everything locked down so I can stop worrying about it.

I like to get everything locked down, too. Since the parking is not an issue for you, I say go for it! AirTran may even be a participant in the return baggage check in part of DME by then - I've got my fingers crossed!

I gave up on Southwest and booked Airtran last night. I'll just turn off Ding for the new few months so I don't get upset if SW comes out with some good deals.

Thanks for your help. I'm looking forward to trying out Airtran.
