AirTran question - gate check stroller

Hi Everyone,

I have booked AirTran for the first time. I chose our seats as it does matter to me that I sit with my children. I realize this is an extra expense and it is still way cheaper than the other airlines.

At any rate, can I gate check a stroller with them?

If I decide to check the car seat rather than bringing it on the plane does that cost $15 as well or is that free?

Sorry for the questions, I have never flown them before and searched their website and could not find the answer.

Thanks!

Gate checking of personal assistance devices (aka wheelchairs, walkers, strollers and car seats) is at no charge. The only time you'd be charged to gate check is when you know your "carry on" bag is too big for the overhead or to go under the seat in front of you.

Yes, you can gate check a stroller. See the Gate Agent well before boarding starts, for a gate-check tag, and fill it out while you wait.

I typed "car seat" into the search field and had no trouble finding an answer, not specifically to gate checking, but to checking http://www.airtran.com/policies/general_information.aspx period. It's under the Childrens and Infants sections.

Any time you have a question that's not on an airline's website, you can always call the airline.

Thank you. For some reason I couldn't find it.

I realize I could call the airline - if I had access to a phone - which I currently do not. So, I turned to the Dis which has never let me down in the past.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

IS this new? I haven't flown since they started charging for bags. I like to carry on and since we fly on little planes, they always gate check my carry on and then I get it back and don't have to collect it in baggage claim.

All three of us were planning on doing that this trip. Will we each be charged $15?

Also, when you gate check your stroller and car seat, it doesn't go through baggage claim right? I have to check a carseat with Air Tran and I'm hoping that it doesn't go through baggage claim, just gate checked at the beginning of the flight and picked up on our way off the plane.

No they only do this if you bring in an obvious oversized bag and even then I have only seen the person get an earfull from the counter person.

So a standard carry-on suitcase (sold as a carry-on) is still ok? They'll just valet it at the gate, right?

Thanks,
Nicole

Unless you're flying spirit. If the bag doesn't fit and has to go under, they WILL charge.

I guess it depends, I fly some due to work and have never seen anyone get charged. They just tag it at the gate. They have taken mine a few times and actually thank me for letting them tag it:confused3
Now this is not airtran but I have not seen airtran do it on the flights I have seen. Now I have seen someone get charged because their bag was over the size the airline deemed as a carryon. It wasn't that much bigger, you should have seen that exchange of words:rotfl:

If you haven't flown since they started charging for baggage, then wait till you see the stuff people try to carry on.....:scared1:
