We are flying Airtran from PHL to MCO in May. If I check in online prior to leaving home and then use the Skycaps at the terminal to check my luggage, do I still need to go to the counter or can we just proceed through security and go to the gate? I assume we tip the Skycap, what is customary?

I never used either on-line checkin or skycaps. Trying to make our early morning flight as painless as possible. Any tips?

Thanks,
Tammy

Great questions as we are wondering the same things. We have never flown Air Tran and we are flying out of Pittsburgh to MCO.

They were great about changing my flight without charging me extra when they changed the time on me. What was bad is they never notified me of the time change. I just happened to check flights and noticed the flight number we were taking had been scheduled to leave even earlier! If I had just printed my boarding pass out at home before leaving and then discoverd the time change, we would have missed our flight!

We used the AirTran on-line check in and it is really great. A display of the plane seating comes up and you click on the seats that you want. It shows the seats that are already taken. Then you print out your boarding passes. At the airport you go right to security. We only had carry-on luggage but my guess would be that if you use the skycaps then you simply proceed to the security gate. You will already have your boarding passes so there is no reason to go to the AirTran window.

We used this and it worked nicely at home. We picked our preferred seats and boarding passes, dropped luggage at curb and through security. On the way home we had printed our boarding passes but went to counter to drop off bags in Tampa. The clerk reprinted boarding passes even though I told him I had them. At home they noticed it on the computer and asked if I had them with me.
Another time friends were traveling without access to a computer and I picked nice seats for them on the flight home. They got the boarding passes the normal way but had their first choice of seats.

We used AirTran from Dayton to Orlando in December, and we loved it! We picked our seats at home, as described above, and then used curbside check-in when we got to the Dayton airport.

Coming back, I had my laptop with me, so we logged on from the Beach Club Villas and picked our seats for the return flight. I didn't have any way to print the tickets out, but that was no problem at all. The skycaps, curbside, at MCO gave us our tickets when we checked in, and we went straight to the gate.

It couldn't have been simpler. . .and there were 9 of us! I'd use them again in a heartbeat!

230 days and counting . . . again!
