Airtran Flight Change?

Have been checking our flights for December. Good thing because this past week they moved our flight to an hour and a half later departure time. Called tonight and got an earlier flight with absolutely no problems. Hopefully even with some time fluctuations, this earlier flight will be fine.

I booked flights for Oct and next March with AirTran after Midwest cut the flights I had scheduled origially. Last week, the outbound flight in December was changed twice in one day by AirTran! I had to call twice to get it back to the late afternoon nonstop when they first moved it to mid-day nonstop and then moved it again to early morning non-stop.

Here's a new twist to the story. I checked my Orbitz trips and the trip above is still listed at the early morning non-stop time for MKE to MCO. But at AirTran, my itinerary shows the 3:55 pm flight. And they both have the exact same flight number! 677

I called Orbitz and they put me on hold to call AirTran. The answer is that the Air Tran change to the schedule isn't in the Orbitz system (from last week!). Orbitz doesn't even show that a 3:55 pm nonstop to MCO exists. So, my "trips" info at Orbitz is incorrect and my trip info at AirTran is correct. The orbitz customer service person said not to worry about it, that I'm on the 3:55 pm flight that I want.

Now I wonder if AirTran didn't tell Orbitz about this flight because they plan to drop it in the future anyway? ! ?

Airtran changed our flights twice. The second change was to a connecting flight. At the time they had dropped all the non-stops from our airport for that day so we asked for a refund. To AirTran's credit, they were very good about switching us after the first change and giving us a refund after the second change (that is, after waiting a lifetime on hold :lmao: ). Since all that they seem to have added a n/s flight back to the schedule, so who knows what's going on. We've since rebooked on SWA and I'm happier with that.

We are flying AirTran in October and I bought our N/S tickets in early February.
In June there were 2 very minor changes to our flights:
Outbound - Leaves 30 minutes earlier
Return - Leaves 10 minutes later

andymattmom & j-jhall: I am also flying IND-MCO and I'm on the same flights as you - 1st N/S down and last N/S on the way home.

As I was reading your post I was thinking that those adjustments looked familiar! I will try to make sure my family and I leave WDW in one piece for you and your family!

On a side note, I work in Westfield! Good to know that there are DIS people nearby!

What days will you be there? We are flying AirTran in October too (10/8-14) IND-MCO. We bought our tickets in April. The flight on 10/8 was departing at 8pm, with a stop in ATL, arriving MCO around midnight. They changed our flight to a nonstop arriving MCO at 8ish. I was happy to hear we got switched to a nonstop. But I'm nervous it will change again.

We are currently on the last nonstop flight on the way home. I'm hoping that doesn't change.

Just wanted to add that changing flights isn't just an Air Tran thing, it's an airline thing. I've had changes on any flights that I booked out pretty far ahead of time (Northwest, Delta, and Air Tran).

Air Tran has always been the most accomodating though and tried to work things out to my satisfaction (including once paying my extra day's car rental when their new flight time didn't fit my schedule, and I chose to stay an extra night - didn't need the hotel since I was staying at my parents').

Northwest once called my house at 10:00 p.m. the night before I was supposed to catch a 6 a.m. flight the next morning. It was an automated call, and if I hadn't been home to get it, I would have been out of luck. Fortunately, I was home to push the appropriate buttons to find out that the flight had been canceled (only flight out until the afternoon, and I was supposed to fly into Phoenix and meet a group at noon)! :scared: I actually had to drive to a different airport to catch the connecting flight, and they didn't like me doing that (took quite an argument). :headache:

My TA made my arrangements in Feb for my Labor Day Week Trip, and like you I have the same changes from IND to MCO and back. I work in Indy, So you can add another area DIS.

I booked back in May for an October PIT-MCO flight. They were both non-stop flights. Airtran changed the times on my flight going to Orlando, and it would have gotten me into Disney about two hours later than the original flight. I called and they changed me to the first flight of the day. So it's a layover in ATL, but I basically get a full day at Disney now.

My flight coming home leaves 2 hours later than the original flight as well, but I'm OK with more time in Florida so I kept that.

Can't get enough Hoosier hospitality on here!

Cool! I wish I worked in Westfield too - short commute. ;) But I work in Zionsville so it's not too far. :)
My DH works downtown.

By the way, it will be interesting to see if our flight down changes again to an even earlier time. A co-worker of mine flew IND-MCO in June on the same flights we have and her final departure time was 7:00am. She didn't know about the change (she's not an obsessive DIS'er like us!), thought the departure was still 7:45am, and was surprised when she got to the gate and her plane was boarding. It's a good thing she got to the airport early! I'd like it if we left at 7:00am - - we get to Disney sooner!

I used to live just outside of Z'ville and my parents had a video store in town.

I actually live in Plainfield and work up here in Westfield so I don't feel sorry for your commute! :lmao:

I would agree that I would love to get there earlier!!!!

We recently changed our Dec. WDW flights to Air Tran because Midwest cancelled all our flights (even though they were full!). We actually got a better rate and a better return flight to KC Missouri. However, I am nervous after reading this thread and never have flown this airline, I am a seasoned traveler though. I would like to hear back from some recent people who have flown Air Tran thanks.
:confused3

I think as some as stated that the problems are industry wide. My advice is to keep a close eye on your flights and watch for change. If they do change and the new times do not work just give them a call and they will work to get you on a flight that does work for you.

I just wanted to say hi. I am Jim's (aka j-jhall) DW. Hope everyone has a successful flight down to WDW!

I just cancelled our Oct flights with Air Tran. We originally booked a non stop flight from White Plains to MCO. First they changed our 2 1/2 hour flight to one with a stop over taking 5 hours. And then another day they changed our flight to leave the day before without even letting us know. I just happened to sign on Air Tran to see if there was anything better for our original day. I wasn't going to wait around to see if there were anymore changes. I rebooked with Jetblue.

I also just cancelled my flight with Air Tran for Jan. I have had my flights changed so many times lately I can even count. We got to the airport last year for you Sept Disney trip and our flights were changed to 8:00pm when we were scheduled for 7:30 am. I had my son 14 in his wheelchair for the whole time. We got dropped off and had no way to leave at that point.

For those of you that cancelled your flights with AirTran were you refunded your money because they changed?

I have been watching flights for Airtran for my Sept trip. They changed a bunch of the flight times since this morning. How can you rely on them the day of your flight. I t is difficult to get info when you are away on vacation. Argh!
