I currently have 4 tickets to Orlando booked on the same reservation for my family. I am going to have cancel my DH's ticket and purchase him a ticket for a different date -he will be going to Orlando the night before the rest of us. When I tried to cancel the ticket online, it is an all or nothing deal - as in I can't cancel his without cancelling all of our tickets. I know airtran charges a fee by phone to cancel plus the $75 fee. I only paid $75 for his ticket. Should I just let him be a no show and have that cancel his ticket out on the day of departure, or should I call and cancel his ticket? I know I will lose the $75 I paid for his ticket, I just don't want to have to pay any fees above that amount. I don't know if that will cause a problem with our return tickets, since we will all fly back together. Any advice? I hope this makes sense:) Thanks :)

If he no-shows, there should be no issue for those of you who do travel. However his return flight most probably will be automatically canceled. So, if you're going to make another reservation for him, it should be for a round-trip. Otherwise you would need to change his departure date / flight only. You should give them a call and explain your situation, so that you can evaluate your options. They won't charge you until you actually make the change or cancel.

Thanks so much:) I took your advice and called AT. They were so helpful and were able to make his reservation separate from us. I can now go online to change his flight and avoid the fee. I just love calling a place with such good customer service.

I appreciate the good service I've received from AT too over the years, if it wasn't they always made it right...in that regard:

are you saying u booked on AT (vs SWA site), needed to cancel & were able to call them to remove ur DH from the reservation and are now able to rebook without paying the fee?:scratchin I've never been able to get the fee waived. I often would book cheap connecting flight times and the times would usually change, then I'd call & rebook a NS for value of the original flight.

I think she was referring to the fee charged when you make changes on the phone with an agent, which is additional to the standard change fee of $75.

AT has been great for us flying out of SJU (Puerto Rico). Great service and great fares. I'll miss them. SW is about to complete the takeover here, so we'll be trying them for the first time in our next trip in January. :)

When I checked airfares on AirTran today, the web site said the change fee was $150! I just now went to AirTran's web site again, and the higher fee is effective for cancellations/changes beginning today (August 20, 2013): http://www.airtran.com/policies/general_information.aspx#cancellation_policy

Cancellation Policy

To cancel a reservation, please call AirTran Airways Reservations at 800-AIR-TRAN or 678-254-7999 in Atlanta. Reservations must be cancelled at least one hour prior to departure, and there is a $75 fee per passenger to cancel a reservation. (Reservations cancelled on or after August 20, 2013 will be charged a $150 fee per passenger.) The remaining balance will be placed in a credit file, which may be used for future bookings for up to one year from the date of the original booking. Failure to cancel reservations one hour prior to departure will result in the forfeiture of airfare.

MKFan ah that makes sense

NancyIL thanks for posting but that is just crazy since SWA is so liberal with flight changes. :confused3 I'm wondering if AT is still going to accommodate passengers with the flight time change loophole many of us have used?:scratchin
