I have read several posts where people are upset with Airtran for changing their flights .. What if I am hoping they change our flights and give us the option of cancelling completely for a full refund. Is that ever a scenario?

After I booked out of our local airport I found a concert we really want to attend in St Louis the day before we leave which make it much more convenient to just fly out of St Louis ..

I know we can cancel for $75 per person which we might end up doing .. just curious about the other scenario.

It is possible. I think the change has to be significant, say an early flight moving to a late evening flight. Or also a non-stop changing to a layover in Atlanta. The change to a layover is one where I have seen people report that they were able to cancel and book on another airline.

However, they will let you change airports when they change the times. We did this a year or so ago. Our in-laws were set to fly out of FT Lauderdale, but we had a cruise going out of Port Canaveral, my in-laws were set flying out before we went on the cruise. It was going to be a challenge to drop them off at Ft Lauderdale and then drive to the cruise. We were also set to fly out of Ft Lauderdale after our cruise. So when they changed their times, we called and had them change our flights to fly out of Orlando.

I've heard of people getting their flights moved without a fee for a time change as small as 15-20 minutes. I've also seen reports of people being denied even if the change is an hour. I guess it depends on who you get. I do believe that usually, if you explain that the new time (or new flight with a stop) doesn't work for you, they are pretty good about either finding one that will work or giving you a full refund.

I'm considering testing this out myself. After a few years of not flying AT because of their time changes, I booked a return from WDW. It has since moved twice in the last month and is now leaving an hour and change earlier than when scheduled. Not a huge deal, but still, my SW flight to WDW hasn't (and most likely won't) budge at all.

Unfortunately the concert tickets we want to buy are sold out in the more desirable locations so doesn't look like that will pan out after all.

I'm hoping Airtran doesn't change our flight significantly .. we are currently booked on a 6:10 p.m. departure with a 40 minute layover in Atlanta to arrive MCO at 10:49 p.m. Those times are perfect for me to go ahead and work that day and not cause DD to miss a day of school. The earlier flights that day are at 11:30 a.m. which we could manage but would mean more time off work / school which wouldn't be such a great idea .. Guess we'll just play the waiting game and see.
