If I booked my air through SW but the flight is AirTran, do I still check in for the flight on SW's website? Will I get seat assignment then?

Thank you!!

Yes. Check in at the 24 hour mark and you will get your seat assignment. I'm sure you can pay extra to check in sooner, but I had no trouble with this when I booked Air Tran through SWA in June.

You cannot pay extra to check in sooner. I wish!

So I just do check in on southwest's site and it will automatically give me a
Seat for AirTran? Thank you!

We just flew Air Tran through SW on our flight to MCO last month. Was a little nervous but it went smoothly. Checked in at exactly 24 hr. mark on SW website. Our check-in was slower because we had 5 reservation numbers because we were booked with points. I had to check-in one at a time. Even so, we were assigned seats very close together. I would would book this way again. For the flight home, I booked a traditional SW flight and paid for EBCI. I did not feel that I would have access to check-in the same way as I did on the flight to MCO. I wanted to play it safe for the flight home.

The only way you can pay to check in sooner on any airline is paying for EBCI when you are flying Southwest.

You always check in with the airline who is actually flying the plane. You may have booked with Southwest, but you are flying AirTran "metal." You check in with AirTran.

I am not trying to contradict you. However, we just flew an Airtran flight booked through SW. I called SW several times before the check-in date to clarify what sight to check-in. They stated it was the SW sight. At the 24 hr. mark, that is what we did. I got Airtran boarding passes when I checked in at the SW site. OP call 1-800-I-FLY-SWA to confirm. You will be given the same information. You don't want to find out when you need to check in. No worries. It will go smoothly!:goodvibes:thumbsup2

Thank you so much! I would have thought checkin was with Air Tran. Now I know to go to SWA site for checkin!

DH just did this for business trip to ATL. Booked on SW, Airtran flight. Checkin on SW at T24, got an Aitran boarding pass with a seat assignment. Middle seat which he wasnt happy about, but they did switch him to a window in the back at the gate

Our flight to Orlando is tomorrow morning. I checked in this morning at exactly 24hrs. We are booked on Southwest but our flight is on Air Tran. I checked in on the Southwest Site and the boarding passes that I printed are for Air Tran.

It is one adult and three children and I got 4 seats in the same row. So we will have one "stranger" in one of the window seats in our row. we all had the same confirmation number.

Thankfully it worked out perfectly, I was awake all last night worrying about it. First time flying in 8 years.

I stand corrected. However, for airlines not in the process of merging, you do check in with the actual airline whose plane you will be flying, not the airline you used for the booking (i.e. you booked a US Airways flight on United's web site, check in with US Airways).

Which counter do you go to to check in your luggage? I booked an AT operated flight thru SW site, but not sure which counter I am suppose to check my luggage in at. I know I get my bags checked free.

DH said Airtran. And at PHL, the counters are right next to each other so if you go to the wrong one, they will send you right next door.

Friendly reminder. Don't let them "accidentally" charge you bag fees. I know people this has happened to. When you book Airtran through SW you are governed by SW policy, i.e. no bag fees. Airtran charges bag fees. I just reminded the CS agent when we checked our bags.:goodvibes

They tried this with me. Agent then acted like I was trying to take the $25 out if her pocket. Lots of sighing LOL

Is it that way at MCO, too? I looked at the MCO airline map, and it appears SW is in Terminal A and AirTran is in Terminal B. Is it still that way, or are they next to each other?

Sorry I dont know the answer to that, DH's flight was for work so it was to ATL. He flew SW/Aitrain there from PHL. He bought/checkin online with SW, went to the Airtran counter at the airport. He wanted his seat changed from the middle. He went to the Airtran counter.

He then flew UsAir home to PHL.

No, they are not close to each other at MCO.
If checking in online you check in that you purchased the ticket from.

For check in at the airport and baggage drop off you check in with the airline flying the plane.

Thank you! I DID get the other info, but hadn't thought about physical location of AirTran at MCO. Oopsies! We don't fly til December, so I'm sure I would have thought of that later, but being aware NOW is helpful! Don't want to be dropping people off on the wrong side. :scared:

OK, can I sum this up? I read the thread and it is slightly confusing.

I booked on SW site, but they are AirTran flights. I check in at the 24 hour mark with SW.

I check my luggage with SW? (Or AirTran?)

Also: I called SW with concerns about checking in at 24 hour mark for me and my son. We have different reservation numbers. He is a special needs adult (autism and down syndrome, non-verbal). Someone on another DIS board said they could assign us seats ahead of time because of his disability. I called SW and they said not to worry, if we were not together they would move someone else at the gate. I would rather avoid any unpleasantness that could occur from this, but I guess we will have to see what happens. (I was not aware how the SW/AT boarding would work when I booked the flights. I thought we would board SW style after the AT passengers were seated, or something).
