I'm flying airtrans from Philly for the first time. My son and his friend are 15 and 16. The site says they don't need ID, and I called and was told under 18 doesn't need ID, but my son's friend is tall, and I am getting a little nervous.
Does anyone have any experience with the policy? Will we be OK without ID for the boys?

There are usually ID cards that you can get at the same place that issues a drivers license. They shouldn't need ID but you may find someone that questions them since you have to show it several times.

We just flew airtran the end of June/ beginning of July. My daughter is 17 and they did not ask for ID even though she had her drivers license with her. Before she drove she would take her school ID with her just to be on the safe side, but she has not been asked for ID, they just asked her age.

We have flown AirTran with teens and never been asked ID despite their visual appearances.

Since there are so many people that want to see ID before you finally get on the plane I don't think it hurts to have some sort of ID with you. If they don't ask great which is what happens most of the time. But you could get a cranky TSA or ticket agent that wants to see ID and you could be delayed or denied access through security.
