What airports are closer to DL?
How far is Burbank from DL?

Never done burbank but if you want close you want SNA! :) We are trying out LGB in june since the airfare was dirt cheap and everyone seems to like it. SNA only takes like 20 mins and LAX is more like 45+. I think burbank is further out than SNA but someone will come along with better info soon. GL :)

we fly out of john wayne airport..it's easy to handle...and the closest to disneyland.

:santa:

SNA (also called John Wayne, Santa Ana, Orange County) is the closest, and the best in my opinion.

It's so quick and easy to get in and out of. It's the only airport we use when flying to socal.

Oh....and DH says that Burbank is probably 45 minutes or longer with traffic.

OK - so today I changed our flights. I'm saving over $700 by flying into Burbank instead of SNA (for 3 of us). Has anyone taken the Amtrak into Anaheim? Where is the stop there?

Where are you flying from? I didn't realize there was ever such a huge price difference between the two airports.

I'm confused. So you'll fly to Burbank, take the train to anaheim, and then take a cab or something to your hotel?

Lucy are you suggesting that after all the extra travel expenses the savings may not be as big?

I am one of those people who do SNA because it is close and to me my DL time is priceless and the more the better. However 700 dollars is huge! We are saving quite a bit by flying to LGB in june. Only costing us 118 RT (with vouchers) verses something like 259 RT each.

No, I agree that $700 is a lot. I'm just really surprised so I was wondering where they are flying from. For us, it's never a big difference between SNA and other airports.

And I wondered if that was the plan - plane, train, cab. I have no clue how much the train/cab would cost. Nor do I know how much extra time that would take. (We always rent a car because we do other things, like visit family, while in town.)

For the heck of it, I searched Minneapolis (the person that saved $700 is from Minnesota. I have no clue what airport they actually use) to SNA and to Burbank. (I just picked the dates of my trip.) And it's only $40 cheaper to go to Burbank.

For us, it's exactly the same price from Omaha to SNA, Burbank, and LAX. But the travel time to Burbank (because we'd have to go through Dallas) is and hour and a half longer than the travel time to SNA. So for us, the choice is obvious.

We flew out of Long Beach yesterday. It's a cute little "retro" airport. Our flight was delayed due to snow in Seattle, so we spent more time there than planned. Our flights going into and out of Long Beach were considerably less.

We were originally booked on NWA from Minneapolis to SNA for 3 of us it was $1300. I continue searching because that seemed so high. Yesterday, I booked AA for the 3 of us for $600 from MSP to BUR. I did look again at NWA and I think it had gone down to $1000.

I was originally really excited about SW airlines coming to MSP because we have friends in Omaha that tell us all the time about the great deals. Right now, they are the highest price out of MSP at $700/person for spring break:confused3

If you're going to take the Amtrak, it stops at Fullerton and the Anaheim Station. If you take a cab from the Anaheim Station (they're always hanging around), it's about $10 to the Anaheim hotels.

You might also look into taking Primetime Shuttle or SuperShuttle from the Burbank Airport to the DLR area and compare that to your train/cab tix.

Where do you search prices?

I always use orbitz or expedia. This time we did orbitz.com. We really lucked out. When I had searched a few days earlier...it was $222 to SNA. Then one day I decided it was time to book at it had gone down to $188. So we saved a little. We typically fly Frontier or United through Denver. This time we're flying Frontier on the way there. And U.S. Airways home (through Arizona.) It'll be my first time on that airline. We've done NWA through Minneapolis before but it adds quite a bit of travel time. I've never flown SWA before. They aren't on orbitz/expedia. I honestly never even search their site. I did a long time ago and it confused me...haha.

The Anaheim Station is in the parking lot of Angel Stadium and a quick drive down Katella to DLR, less than 10 minutes.

I live here and prefer LGB over SNA any day. LGB is a teeny tiny airport, so there are rarely any lines, they get you your luggage quickly, and you don't have to walk very far to any gate. There are two wings, each a big room with the gates around the outside. There is only a little cafe there for food and it is outside of security. Past security there is a little coffee stand kind of place for food, so bring something to eat with you if you are picky.

The other fabulous thing about LGB is if you follow Ball Road west, it turns into Wardlow which deadends at LGB. So it takes you about 20-25 minutes to get to the airport from DLR even when it is 5pm rush hour traffic on the 91. There is no good way to do this from DLR to SNA. Also the 5/57/22/55 interchange (know as the Orange Crush) is miserable many times during the day and can really slow you down on your way to/from SNA.

Burbank is the furthest airport from DLR and will take more than 45 minutes to get from there to the resort driving. I am not sure on the train.

The other airport to look into is ONT in Ontario. It is not too much further than the other airports and is about the size of SNA.

Lucy - I use Expedia, travelocity, cheapair (love that one), airfare and then typically also check the airlines website. Because I travel a lot for my job, I usually can get a good price out of NWA - I think with the Delta merger there is a lot going on with them right now and things are changing however.

I'm booked on the AA tickets. I will probably take the advice and check out the train or the shuttle prices. My dh and another child will be arriving into SNA (they are flying on frequent flyer tickets and we didn't have as much flexability) that evening. I keep telling the two that will be with me it will be an adventure - kind of like The Amazing Race!

Thanks for all the feedback.
