A luggage bag would not have prevented snapping a wheel off from a 15 foot drop off a conveyor belt.
And yes- a royal pain dragging a broken stroller, 2 kids, luggage, and a handicapped mom (ruptured achilles at the time) through the airport! Ugh!

So am I understanding this right, there is no charge for a checked car seat? We are flying Delta and they have a charge for baggage which is $25 I think per bag. I was going to gate check it but if there is no cost to check it with our suitcase that seems so much easier.

no charge for any baby items usually. Check with the airline - but we flew Delta last year to FL and they shipped 2 car seats and a pack-n-play for free - only charged us for our true luggage (which is still a rip off).

If you fly Southwest - no charges for anything and families can board after the "A" group so you'll be able to find seats together.
