We arrive 1/05 and leave 1/12, both Saturdays. I recall there are several tolls along the way. How likely is it that there will be significant delays for the cash lanes? I'm hoping to not have to pay the $15/wk rental car fee for a Sun Pass. Thanks.

We've been there that same week many times and have never waited in line for cash tolls either from or to the airport. Actually, I don't ever recall there being a lot of traffic on 417 either. IMO, I don't think a lot of locals use 417 all that much. I would never pay the weekly fee for approximately $3.50/$4.00 in tolls each way. However, do be sure you have a few dollars in quarters because depending where you get on or off it could be an unmanned booth using exact change.....we once got off at Celebration (at least I think it was?) unmanned booth and something wrong with the exact change machine.....we put the quarters in but it didn't register....no one there.....so we proceeded to go thru...obviously the camera took the license plate and two months later we get a ticket for not paying the toll in addition to administrative charges from the rental car company. It took me about two hours of phone calls to get it straightened out, but, we got refunded everything once they verified there was indeed a problem with that toll booth during the timeframe we went thru it. That was the only issue with tolls we have ever had in the past 15 years we have been traveling to WDW several times a year.

I use the 417 almost daily. It's the easiest and fastest way.

There are a few different ways you can get to the airport though depending on how much time you are willing to take,.
You could take te 528 and get off at Sand Lake Rd. Follow Sand Lake and cross over Orange Blossom Trail, (The Florida Mall will be on the left just before OBT) stay on Sand Lake. Cross over John Young and continue on Sand Lake for another couple miles til you get to Turkey Lake Rd (Whole Foods Market will be on the left side at this corner) Turn left on Turkey Lake.
Follow this and it will change names from Turkey Lake to Palm Parkway. Follow Palm Prkwy to 535 where you will make another left (Olive Gardn on this corner on left side) The entrance to Downtown Disney will be on the right after you turn onto 535.
Going this way will take you a little longer, but no tolls.

The 417 is the fastest option. Most of the rentals have Plate pass on the windshields and it will cost you a few extra dollars, but the convenience is nice.
Take the 417 South exit towards WDW. You can get off at exit 6 for Disney follow exit down to 535 and turn right or go straight and you will see the Marriott World Center on your right and Nickelodean Hotel on the left. Head straight down 536 and follow the signs to your resort.

I would say it is worth using the manual lanes and getting a receipt when paying cash. Especially given the experience of a preceding poster regarding exact change.

A good compromise during non-rush hours uses 528 (Beach Line) where you only have to do it once and it costs about one dollar. Use the north airport exit and go left at the first light, then get on 528 west at the next interchange. No exact change only toll plazas.

We always use 417 leaving the airport. If memory serves there are two manned tolls, and we've NEVER had a lineup there. So easy and quick. We actually delay things by needing a receipt, LOL. It doesn't take long at all, but it's not AS fast as not wanting a receipt.

Then if we go a bit further on it, there's an unmanned one where the quarters are needed. I've never had a problem with *that* one, but there's another one that wasn't registering. We put the quarters in and it never seemed to say "yep you're done", so we did it again, with me taking pictures as the quarters registered, then of the light that never turned green and the counter that just went back to the full amount of the toll without hitting zero. We didn't have a problem with the toll, but I had the pictures, LOL just in case.

If you have a problem with an unmanned toll, or if your GPS manages to put you (or your spouse) on a toll road when you weren't prepared financially to be there, look out for envelopes. DH found envelopes with the toll name on them, grabbed one, and went through the toll without paying. He was on his way TO the store, where he was going to get cash for tolls, and had nothing. But we popped a check in the envelope for a ridiculously low amount of money, got it in the mail before the vacation ended, and never heard anything more from them.
