I have read many post that say you have to take your shoes off through security. If this is true do you walk barefoot or do you wear socks so that you are not walking on a dirty floor? Any suggestions?

I was hoping to wear sandles, but socks would not look good with them.

Thanks

I wear my sneakers on flights......and I always have little footies on......they donot make you take those off........I would be YUCKY if they did......saw alot of people with their crocs and they were barefooted

We use our Crocs to avoid the "removing of the shoes" issue. If you're a germaphobe, then you can wear ankle socks and they may not make you take them off. Even though they may not ask, if they do, you'll have no choice but to obey their command. They can, and have asked us to remove our socks before.

I've never been asked to remove my socks or anyone in my family and we have flown a lot through big and small airports.

why would they want you to remove your socks? coats jackets I understand but why socks?

I always wear socks when flying since I hate the idea of walking barefoot through security. If socks look silly with your shoes (and you can't wear different shoes), remove the socks as soon as you get through security.

Some airports will allow certain shoes (e.g. crocs) through, but some airports require that all shoes be removed. I've never heard of an airport requiring that socks be removed!

What do you mean Socks don't look good with sandles.

But yes easy to remove shoes. And I would think there is some funk going on with all those barefooted travelers walking in that same area.

I go through barefoot and haven't had any health issues. I was behind someone once that wouldn't go through until they gave her paper towels to walk on.

We all usuall wear our Crocs, although my dh tends to wear his boat shoes. Dh and dd wear nothing other than the shoes, I wear socks, yes, even with my Crocs!! My feet tend to get cold during the flight. But, I usually take them off when I make my restroom stop after deplaning!!!

Here at Dulles airport they have footies you can put on your feet. It's a big box located near the security machines. They are disposable. I'm surprised other airports don't have them. At Dulles everyone takes their shoes off, no exceptions.

While you must remove your shoes (even children) you may wear socks. We fly often and I have never been asked to remove my socks. Slip on shoes are easiest :)

I believe I've seen those at Logan as well, and even at Tampa. Not sure about MCO though.

We also wear socks. We fly pretty often for business and pleasure and have never been asked to remove them. We throw ours away after the flight.

OT: Do you walk barefoot on the resort room carpet? I dare say that said carpet is no cleaner than the airport securty checkpoint.

OT: Are footies (tm?) those sub-ankle sheer nylon things you are supposed to put on your feet before trying on shoes in the shoe store? I find it hard to believe that they succeed in prevent sweat from your feet from soaking into the shoes (or sweat left on the floor from soaking the other way).

I always wear socks or knee highs. I don't want to walk through there barefoot.

I was planning on wearing the croc sandles and I just don't like socks with them, that is just me.:goodvibes

No, they seem to be made out of paper material, more like what you would wear in a hospital over your shoes.

This is totally OT, BUT why do you throw them away?

:) The only reason we wear socks at the airport is to keep our feet from touching the floor directly preceding and during the checkpoint.
Therefore, we discard them before we put our shoes/sandals/etc. back on post checkpoint. If we are dressed for business, we use clean socks. :thumbsup2

We either throw them away of stuff them away to be washed.

Ok Thanks! Just curious, or maybe hoping for an extreme germaphobe thread:goodvibes

Once again I am in agreement. And considering how frequently you and I fly, if there was any health risk I am sure that we would have experienced it by now
maybe hoping for an extreme germaphobe thread
:rolleyes1
