Last year, flying out of BUF (without any jewelry or belt) I started to take my shoes off and was told to keep them on. While going through security in TPA at come back, I yelled at for both leaving my shoes (ballet flats) on and taking my watch off to put it in the bin.
You were probably sent through the TSA Pre-check line. They do this randomly and you don't need to take off your shoes or anything. I go through Pre all the time and I really wish when they send people to this line that they instruct them on what they need to do, or not do, in this case. I don't know how many times I get behind someone who was sent there and they hold everyone taking off their shoes and stuff. Not their fault, I just wish TSA would tell them.
