Airport check in

My boyfriend works in NYC so we will be flying out of JFK, he gets out of work at 4pm and takes about an hour - an hour and a half on the subway to get over to queens, cabs in rush hour would be insane, our flight, which is not booked yet so our anticipated flight, will leave at either 7pm or 8pm. To be safe my plan is to get to the airport on my own, meet him there I was wondering...

Can I check him in, or do online check in, and check his bags before he arrives at the airport? So all he will have to do is go through security and find me at the gate?

I don't think you will be able to check his bags for him. They usually check the IDs of everyone checking bags as well as their boarding passes. You can check him in for the flight online.

You can check his bags under your name. Keep in mind any fees you may have due to number of checked bags. You didn't mention your airline, so I don't know what (if any) your baggage fees will be.

We're probably flying jet blue but that also depends on if that is the least expensive at the time. But that does make sense. Thank you!

You can check him in online, but he will need his own boarding pass to get through security. If you had it, you would have to meet him before security, not at the gate.

If he works in Manhattan, have him look into taking the LIRR instead of the subway, could save him up to an hour of time. It'll cost more but save lots of time.
